UMaine Offseason...Belly Up to the Barr Boys

Any NEWS on the Duda situation..?..pretty much knowing this most likely will drag out right to September..(?).

There was just a post about this on the Facebook page yesterday. As of 48 hours ago he's still on campus and the University still has the article welcoming him to the team on goblackbears.com. So no official word yet but if he's still in town and still on the website they must be hopeful.

Ok....My thoughts are if he is able to play, will most likely have to sit out a certain amount of games by the NCAA...or even a semester.

I doubt we'll see him before Dartmouth, but I think he'll play after that. The D group is pretty interesting. 4 left D and 5 right. You have Brazeale, Duda, Holt and Lesakowski on the left. Antonacci, Arnott, Hopkins, Nobes and Chabrier on the right.

Is Duda an academic eligibility issue or an amateur eligibility issue? The fact he committed a couple months ago and we haven’t heard anything isn’t encouraging. Hopefully Maine can pull a rabbit out of their hat but I wouldn’t count on him playing this year.

I’m guessing it’s an amateur eligibility issue but it’s a good question. It’s an uncommon route for players to take (Russia to NCAA), so I wouldn’t be surprised if there are major hurdles academically as well.

I am not up to date on what it means to be academically eligible but I’d imagine it’s a minimum SAT score and a high school degree or equivalent. Not sure if he is an English speaker so the standardized testing piece is probably very difficult.

Just me, but I don't think Barr brought him in without a 50-50 chance he plays down the line either sitting out 6-8 games or a semester...but all rest in what the NCAA decides...and that can and will be hard to gauge. My guess is they(NCAA)will decide by the end of August and no later then the 1st full week of September. Nice to add him(Duda)...but their current roster defenseman should be a plus for the team...imo only.

Just doing our best to get your coach fired anyway possible

Try harder, please. *Sweeping the "White Out The Whitt" thing last Spring probably saved MS7's bacon.

* - for long time fans of the asterisk in the UMaine-UNH rivalry, never let it be said it's a one-way street ;-)

UNH is in the same boat Maine was in a few years back...they don't dare change...and it will go on this year and a very good chance the season after...just glad that what happen to Maine is in the rear view mirror.

FYI, a little league team from Maine is headed to World Series, pretty cool.Gray-New Gloucester
