UMaine Offseason...Belly Up to the Barr Boys

The wildcats are not in as bad a shape as we were. They have some talent and I liked their play over the past few year. Although they seemed to lack a cohesiveness within and didnt play like a team, their weakness. Would love to see Unh and us make the boston teams more humble.

Thanks for the well wishes. But, “….liked their [UNH] play over the past few years.” Seriously? Over the past eight years under Souza (three as Associate Coach; five as Head Coach), UNH has finished the HEA season once in 8th place, four times in ninth, twice in 10th, and once in 11th (9.37th average) and has finished PWR at 39th, 35th, 52nd, 33rd, 31st, 40th, 33rd, and 50th. Many on the UNH threads complain that the Cats’ play has been mediocre. I would suggest that the Cats’ play has been poor, if not terrible.

Per an article in the 6/29 PPH: "...The university is working out eligibility issues on Duda, Barr said."

I hope things work out that he can play sooner rather then later, but I am going with at this point that he is not going to play this semester and not worry what happens either way...the roster is ready with or without him.

I, for one, am glad the university has a real compliance department these days which seems to proactively resolve issues of eligibility rather than rely on one guy with a computer that doesn't work and the word "Custodian" still stenciled on his *cough* office door.

Sometimes you fall down and there's others who help...ask Jim Montgomery.

I liked the old system better. WAY more entertaining, gave us lots of material to work with, for a lotta years. ;-)

I'm really disappointed with the non-conference schedule although it's probably a good year to be loaded with Eastern teams with so many new players. Obviously Quinnpiac is now a premiere series.....would love to see a contract renewal with them. I hope that wee can start seeing a rotation with a couple of Western opponents after Alfond improvements are done and hopefully Maine becomes a big name to schedule once again.

If you want to see western teams in Alfond contact the fans of those teams and see if the feeling is mutual. A few years ago a UMD fan (long time USCHO members will remember him as Biddco) tweeted that Alfond was on his bucket list. I responded that a series between the teams would be great, considering our shared history. Fans of both teams chimed in so I contacted Red and pitched the idea, he contacted Sandy and a few seasons later the Bulldogs were in Orono.

I can't say Coach Barr will be as receptive, but it's worth a shot. North Dakota would be a natural choice. We have played them many times over the years and Coach Berry seemed very taken with the reception he and his players received from Black Bear fans at the Portland Icebreaker. Denver, Michigan State, Lake State and Bowling Green are other obvious choices.

If the fan interest is there, the schools are more likely to make it happen.

I think that smaller traveling budgets and the nightmare of flying and getting stranded/delayed or canceled will factor in for smaller schools.

I went to see Duluth when here a few years back, attendance was awful.

Attendance has been lousy for many years. Other than the student section the atmosphere is horrendous, but that's been true since we expanded the place in '92.

It was honestly halfway decent last year and sometimes fairly loud. I expect this year to be very good.

That's not true that the atmosphere has been horrendous since 1992...come on now...I have been a season ticket holder forever....and yes the last 8 years attendance has been awful to poor ...but before then the atmosphere was electric...and that includes after 1992

Yes indeed, season ticket sales along with Friday/Saturday package plans have increased...a good chance to have some nights packed to capacity and close to full on others....

Winning will bring atmosphere back. Hard to compare present arena with the much smaller arena pre 92 . Much louder back then.
