UMaine Hockey 23 - 24: The Barr Crawl to Glory!!!

On the talk about missing the ncaas… it is not going to happen. Here is the link where they ran Monte Carlo sims on the remaining games to figure out the final pairwise. Maine has a +99% chance of being in the top 14 of pairwise. Of that there is an 18% chance Maine wins Hockey East final getting an auto bid. Therefore, there is a 82% chance gets an at large bid. The at large percentage and auto bid percentage always sum to the In percentage.

I don’t see the point in being more pessimistic than the Monte Carlo simulations prediction. Therefore, I think we should not hypothesis a world where Maine were not to make it this year. I’m more wondering if they get shipped west. I think it would be great for the whole program if they stayed east so that the fans can attend the game in numbers.

That is-would you rather be a 2 seed and stay east, or a 1 seed and go west. I’m thinking it is best to be a 2 seed and stay east. Since UMass is a host of Springfield, likely Maine would be in Providence. If I knew for sure I’d buy my tickets already.

Thinking the NCAA will ship them West.

If they miss the NCAAs now it will be a huge hit to confidence for next year. To me that would be a big step backwards. I don't expect them to win anything this year as far as titles go but they need to play at a regional. I think they will

Your right...NCAA's has to be the end goal...

Would be nice to see Maine win the Hockey East title and force either BU/BC out west.

You can count me in the camp of a 2 seed and playing in Providence. Think everyone would have signed up for that at the beginning of the season.

I think it’s very unlikely Maine struggles for the next four weeks and then wins the hockey east tournament. Monte Carlo simulations are useful for some things but don’t see it with this.

Maine is in a great position and should make the ncaa tournament but it is definitely not nailed on. None of the next nine games will be easy.

Not likely with the $$ that would come in with Maine staying East. As far as tough games go, they are always tough in this league. You might say well the lower seed teams have incentive to move up in the rankings. Well, so too does Maine have incentive. I see nothing derailing this team. Too well coached.

Trust me, I want Maine in the East...and would make loads of sense towards attendance at these 2 brackets...but there are just so many slots they will put Hockey East teams along with shipping western teams to the East...for Maine to stay East, will come down to how they finish the regular season...playoffs in Hockey East play with most likely a trip to Boston a added plus for there cause to keep Maine in the eastern brackets.

Counterpoint, if they know Maine has a well traveling fanbase, that has been hungry for over a decade to see the team play in the national tournament, maybe they'd bank on Maine fans traveling west as the primary attendance and revenue generator at one of those venues (i.e, Maryland Heights, which has no relevant team nearby and is a place I feel like I frequently see Maine landing in bracketology posts).

Maine was placed in Maryland Heights when they were #4 or 5 in the pairwise. Obviously an east regional is prefered, but that bracket is a true neutral site. Just stay out of Sioux Falls and we have a chance.

This.

I think that Maine as a #2 or #3 seed stays in the East. I'd prefer Providence. I think that we match-up better with BC than BU if it comes down to that.

Maryland Heights has a seating capacity of 2,500. Any one of the #1 seeds could sell that out alone, let alone needing to shoehorn in a #2 seed attendance draw.

I thought there was some rule the arena had to be bigger? That was the reason they claimed Maine couldn’t host in Portland. What is the point of a 2500 max capacity for a regional?

They did use that as an excuse to keep it out of Portland....there is no way that they want an Eastern Regional in Maine.....ever. It's on the permanent Manchester/Worcester/Springfield/Providence rotation.

I enjoy the women's game, as I think it is more pure without the checking.

Thank you. The game has been moving very slowly toward rewarding talent before goonery, but much too slowly.

Hockey is MUCH better to watch without the extraneous physicality, and an added bonus is that fewer penalties are called.

I'll probably be dead before the mens' game evolves in an effort to avoid completely unnecessary concussions etc., but that day is likely coming.

Well does Maine go with Boija on Friday..?..then Ostman on Saturday...or a set goaltender Friday with the starter for Saturday to be decided by Friday's out come...I would imo...think Boija Friday with TBD on Saturday.

I think the fact we didn't see Ostman at all against the Friars shows that it's Boija's net until further notice.

I always thought Portland would be a great spot for a regional. Got to be better than Worcester. Probably better than Springfield as well, though its been a while since I have been there.

When there are only two bidders for two western regionals, you take what you can get.

Barr certainly didnt rule out ostman last night during the coach show. He was very complimentary of Victor. Expect him to play one night.
