UMaine Hockey 23 - 24: The Barr Crawl to Glory!!!

Another thought I have from last night, and from the season more generally, wondering if anyone else agrees or if I'm way off base. I find that the "NB Line" is very hot and cold, inconsistent. I find they are either pinning the opponent in their D zone and generating tons of chances, or they are are the ones getting pinned and can't break out of a paper bag. It just seems to me like most times I find myself thinking "damn, they are really on their heels and stuck in their own end", it's usually the first line who's out there. Not sure how this can be fixed, if it's even an observation that holds any water, but it's something I've found that I personally have noticed.

Likely experience..they are freshman after all (minus Breen/Scott depending who they play with)

For those of you "assuming" that the refs got the 5 min major right....the game is available on demand on ESPN+ if you have it. You might change your minds after viewing it.

Maine wasn't going to win every game down the stretch.....every HE team is desperate for points and you don't just skate into their barn and expect them to roll over. That being said I'd feel a lot better if Maine had some consistent tending in net. We'll see what happens tonight.

It was changed from elbowing to contact to the head. Poisson puts his shoulder on his jaw it looks like when the guy isn’t looking as he is playing the puck ahead. I don’t think it helps Poisson nearly leaves his skates. I agree it is contact to the head and a major the way they are calling it now. Don’t want concussions. Barr won’t send that play into the league because that is what they are trying to get rid of… blind side shots to the head.

As I read section “45.1 Contact To The Head” spanning pages 49 to 50 of the rules document at link below, it is clear Poisson directed his shoulder to an opposing players head and neck after he made a pass and left his skates.

It's obvious the game plan for most teams now is to rough up Josh. The coaching staff and players know it. I'm surprised they haven't said anything as well.

This isn't something new on Josh Nadeau getting nailed over and over....been going on since the start of the season....he's one tough kid, shakes it off and gets back into the fray and does it without complaining to the Officials...that's on the Coaching staff...they need to get into the Officials ear at times...not to harp on the old days but Walsh would have made a point of it on a line change/icing or a stoppage in play...just his look would have been enough to say hey...open your eyes.....(!!)

I've been calling for Barr to send video to HE headquarters on here for a few months now. For a guy who skates so well he falls down behind the play a lot coincidentally there is always an opposing team player in the area.

Maybe Aiden McSorley could take a shift or two?

I hate to say it but bench Poisson, he has been off this year. .

I have to wonder if he brings intangibles to the table. I don’t see him getting burnt defensively, but I also don’t see any contribution offensively that almost any of the healthy scratches wouldn’t bring.

i remember when Captain Mushaluk was benched and it was the best thing that could have happened to that team.

It’s up to Maine to stop other teams from doing it not the refs or league office. I know it’s not how Barr wants to play but I think you need some guys who other teams fear physically.

Something worked to stop the targeting of zmacklin C…

my suggestion is let teams know you will stramroll their goalie every time josh gets plastered away from the play

I tuned in a few minutes in, but it from what I saw was a decent period. Not a lot of offense, but good defense and only allowed three shots, including two PKs.

Big fancy rink and half full.
Boys need to play physical and improve d break outs tonite

D break outs are odd

long passes from behind the net?
dalton passed right to umass at the blue line, then on his next, he iced it

maine missed Poisson on the pk yesterday…i was watching closely tonight and he does a great job winning pucks, deflecting passes and being in position

I thought UMass won puck possession that period. Maine looked a bit better at the end of period

Brutal stretch of play, Maine being pinned in their own end and even when they do get into the Mass zone they can't hold the line. Also got really lucky, I complained about offside reviews when it hurt Maine and I will be consistent, they are stupid and should be abolished. It should be 1-1, but Maine gets a break and it's not.
