Too funny...if they think this will work...oh well,my thinking if you don't know what to do while on the ice in crucial parts of the game....oh well..guess mind games 101....ammunition for the Student section and Pep Band...pity PC if Maine scores first and early.

They pipe crowd noise into the coffin during their own home games, iirc.

If I had to guess this is it. Maine probably had him slated for fall of ‘25 and he progressed much quicker this year than they thought and he wanted to come this fall. Right after he de-committed they picked up Aaron Van Wie who is the top goal scorer and 2nd in points in New England prep.

Fyi ~ Not sure that having to wait an extra year is the reason - Following is a quote from Lincoln Stars Head Coach Rocky Russo from an article on the USHL LIncoln Stars website:

"We are very excited to announce Blake's commitment to Wisconsin," Russo said. "Blake's game has continued to develop in his time with us, and will grow over the next season-and-a-half before he moves on to the NCAA level. Coach Hastings and his staff have a fantastic track record of developing players for the NHL, and we hope that Blake can be a part of that prestigious group when he completes his career as a Badger.""

Bottom line he's not interested in playing for Maine...he had a change of mind and he now will be a Badger...figure Barr has others he's looking at and basically it happens and move on from it. He's not the first or last to change his ententions.

Well good luck to him. Seems like a great talent. Hastings is an incredible coach.

Obviously PC will be a huge challenge. They always play the Bears tough, regardless of where the game is. Physical in your face hockey....hopefully they wont trap all game long but we will see. Remember back to the old days, some of the great PC teams....Chris Terreri comes to mind. What a goalie. Cruikshank schooling Eric Weinrich on a one on one. Boback, Bennet and Gadreau line. Thank you Martin Robittaile.

That will be there plan...slow Maine down...clog center ice...box Maine out from the front of the net...clogging the passing lanes...hopefully Maine can score early and change there options where they need to open up...but Leaman knows patience...it comes down to imo, Maine needs soild goaltending, discipline plus, and special teams...both on the pk and pp.

A trip back in time, some of us were there…
What a game, loudest Alfond ever when Pellerin and Robitaille scored.

ORONO, Maine -- Martin Robitaille scored from a scramble in front of the net at 5:28 of the second overtime Sunday to lift Maine to a 4-3 victory over Providence and a berth in the Final Four of the NCAA hockey tournament.

The Black Bears, which won the best-of-three quarterfinal series 2-1, will meet Minnesota in one semifinal Friday night in St. Paul, Minn.

Michigan State will face Harvard in the other semifinal Thursday night with the title game Saturday. Michigan State advanced with a 5-4 overtime victory over Boston College Sunday.

Providence, which finished its season at 22-18-2, opened the scoring Sunday on Lyle Wildgoose's goal at 7:52 of the first period. Vince Guidotti's goal tied it for Maine, now 31-12, at 16:24 of the period.

Mario Aube gave the Friars a 3-1 lead on a pair of power-play goals just 46 seconds apart late in the second stanza. Maine's Mario Thyer cut the lead to 3-2 at 8:35 of the final period and Scott Pellerin knocked a 30-foot slapshot past Providence goalie Mark Romaine to tie the score at 3-3 at 17:38.

After a scoreless 10-minute overtime period, Robitaille ended the game by flipping a backhander over a sprawled Romaine midway through the second extra period.

Romaine had 33 saves for the Friars, while Matt Del Guidice stopped 28 shots for Maine.

I've heard the legends of this game a few times now, I am way too young to have been there but it sounds like an amazing experience.

I believe there was video of that Robitaille goal in the 40th anniversary video of the Alfond. I think I have that feature saved on a HDD somewhere.

EDIT: Did a little digging and found that vid. That Providence game starts at the 8:15 mark (worth watching the whole vid just for Gary Thorne).

I will guarantee Alfond has never been louder and never will be. I stood on the rail, center ice, all of those games, it was unreal. I think I have vhs of that game? Dale Duff on the call

I will never forget that game, have it in my memory forever. It was an epic battle, more so than any other I can recall and I saw a lot of the big ones.

That was March 26, 1989; not 1988.

In the recesses of my memory Robey is still holding that puck, waiting for just the right moment to shoot.

The arena was so loud a friend of mine was staying in Dunn Hall and heard the crowd explode even before he heard the call of the winning goal on the radio. Through a closed window...

I have the VHS of that game, Hancock Lumber commercials and all, somewhere.

On another note, good luck to whomever is trying to sell a pair of seats in section R for Saturday's game for $462 each.

You’ll have to invite a bunch of old timers to your place to watch some of the tapes…we’ll bring beer and pizza. Just no Charlie’s Angels reruns. ; )

Dunn sucks. That's common knowledge.

I was in student section U right behind the goal that Robitaille scored in OT. We were out of our minds. It was so crazy that one of the old fiberglass benches was broke from people jumping up and down.

I've said it a couple times on here in the past, but I would happily digitize any old games on VHS and upload to YouTube.
