UMaine Hockey 23 - 24: The Barr Crawl to Glory!!!

Providence has a couple of tough matchups against BU and NU. If Maine can get one win next weekend they will likely clinch top 4 and they should know how things stand Friday night because Providence plays Thursday night against BU

Those last 7-8 mins crawled by. Exhale.

I thought they played well this entire weekend. Last night was an agonizing loss but I don't think they played badly and lost. They seemed to get some mojo back, yes VT is a lesser tier opponent but they are no slouches this year. I saw some encouraging signs of progress. I want to shout-out Holt again, he looked great again to my eyes.

Are the upcoming games against the Minutemen the most significant games Maine has played in the last ten years?

Probably, since getting 3rd means they get to host UNH likely after UNH played Wednesday and has to ride up to Orono. That would be fun.

I think the game against Providence at the end of 2020 was. At the time we obviously didn’t know the season was going to be cancelled.

I’ll be completely honest that I only care about Maine making the NCAA tourney and they are in good shape to do so. One win out of the next three should be more than enough unless a lot of crazy things happen.

Edit: even if Maine loses three in a row think it’s unlikely any teams move ahead of them in pairwise other than UMA and Providence.

I don't know, not sure about the prospect of seeing the Wildcats again, even with the comforts of Alfond.

My final game as a student at Alfond, remember it well. I could see the argument for it, although if I recall they didn't control their own destiny for home ice going into that game, they needed help from Lowell to beat Connecticut (which they ended up getting). I think since Maine controls their own destiny here it makes these games bigger.

It isn’t like the other teams are easier to play. Northeastern? Providence? UMass?

At least this way it is good for the Maine/UNH rivalry… and the boys owe them one now.

If not UNH I think UMA would be my "preferred" opponent, pending this weekends results of course. I think they're the best matchup for Maine stylistically. Providence is too well coached to be a matchup I'd want to see, and NU scares me badly.

Plus you don't want to see that crying a hole Leaman again what a whiner even in interviews that guy is a crybaby

Scott was an absolute beast tonight, had a great game.
Breen was great as well, as usual.

Just got back from a post game de-stresser night cap at a pub in winooski, great place, chatted with a couple of vt hockey fans, good folks.
Must say the vt fans at the gut are decent folks.
Great Maine turn out at the gut.

I think this so-so semester has been a great learning experience for this team. The emergence of other players instead of solely relying on the Nadeau Show will pay dividends here soon, especially once the brothers soon emerge from their “year too early sophomore mini slump”.
Realistically, while this team was getting educated on the ice, no real damage was done as far as the PWR and HE standings. I still expect a hot team to emerge post season, to include next weekend…

So it is interesting because the game winner was Breen to Poison for a tap in redirect. Do you keep the lines the same as what they were tonight?

Here are the three Maine goals: https://youtu.be/3k6yAJRxCjQ?feature=shared

When they weren’t taking penalties the lines looked pretty good.

The players I noticed, I thought Renwick looked as good he has all year with the Nadeau’s. Niemo has some real talent, he was fired up this weekend and this may be his coming out party. Scott is an awesome player, watching his confidence grow as the year has progressed has been pretty cool. His breakout reminds me a lot of Mangene’s back in the day, hopefully he doesn’t leave early.

On the back end, Holt is the rock. To me, he is their most complete D man. I think the rest of the guys were solid tonight and all weekend. Boija is the starter till he gives Barr a reason to sit him.

Watched AHA sixth place host Bentley lose 4-3 to last place Robert Morris with seconds left in first OT tonight; Bentley could have used Scott and Niemo, for sure.

This has been a good season for Maine. But part of the disappointment is that last years freshman class hasnt really progressed.
