Every time I think Red absolutely has got this, he does something like starting Morris tonight. I absolutely do not understand starting Morris tonight. He is in about his 6th year at the University, and he is a journeyman Division III goalie. Jesu Christo pray for us.

Maybe he thought Bub needed a night off? I don't think this game is as important as some on here do.

Unbelievable, Michel takes stupid penalty and Colgate scores

The penalty Vesey took was 100x stupider. He blazed wide a few times when he had great chances yoo. No doubt he should be in the stands Friday and Pappalardo should be next to him.

Yup but they scored on Michels penalty. This team may have more talent but they don't play any smarter than last years team.

Red needs to join them in the stands. No hope for the program to ever make the NCAA Tournament with that joke behind the bench.

Michel doesn't take his penalty if Vesey doesn't take his. The first 10 minutes of the third were very encouraging but the rest of the game was horrible.

Well, at least the team scored two goals in the third period. It seems as though they really struggle in the third period normally. What a horror show!! Gendron keeps harping about discipline and how it has to change. Looks at this point to be a long season. Who knows........???

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

Red said in the pregame that they started benching guys last week, and it's gonna continue, I guess until he sees the effort and dedication out of these guys that he expects.

I assume that's why Robbins is on the 4th line, he started the season on the third, moved up to Byron's line, and now down where he is. I figure Red expects more out of him than he's' getting.

Robbins can skate really fast on a straight line with open ice in front, period. That's about all I see from him. He has hands of cement and not-so-great instincts. (Kinda reminds me of Bellamy, without the chippiness.) Likewise, even the best of the other younger guys would be 2nd-4th line guys on a decent team, nevermind on a good team.

OK, so this group is better than last year's gawd-awful bunch, but not by a whole lot. The painful truth is that Timmay way out-recruited Red, as thin as were thought the crops were back then. The proof is in the pudding, and I am fairly certain that Maine will never garner another NCAA bid as long as the Gendron regime is in place.

Should be interesting to see what happens next weekend. BC should roll these guys but we'll see. Jerry will make them pay for not moving their feet.

The individual talent level is decent with the freshmen class good, better than we have seen in last few years. Morris is a weak link no doubt.
They played fairly good the first games of the season, we all saw hope, passing was good, good hustle, good quickness, shots on goal were on net and rebounds were capitalized on. All of this is gone now. Last night the passing up through the neutral zone was horrible.
Shots on net were high or high and wide, no rebound opportunities.

What happened from the first few games to now. Could it be that with the first few games what we saw were the results of the team practicing without the coaches on ice and that is their level of basic talent. Now, since the coaches have been working with them and are installing Reds style of play and system, they as a team have gotten worse in all aspects of play. Red's style of play is not going to work, its too predictable -- and sloppy.

Do you know what numbers the freshmen are wearing? There is only one class Timmy had that was anywhere close to as good as this class(2008). Herner and Doherty are still wild cards but this class has at least five decent players, potentially seven, and I'm not ready to give up on Pappalardo quite yet. I think Housakos will turn into a solid player as well. Timmy recruited a few great players, no doubt about that, but his recruiting overall was dismal. You and others can get upset but I'm pretty happy with .500 after eight games looking at who and where they had to play.

Am not ready to jump off a bridge quite yet. I saw maybe 3 good periods of play and 3 bad periods this weekend. That won't cut it in this league. Well it's their choice , they either make a statement on Friday in front of a hockey starved fan base or they fumble t h e puck. What's it gonna be ?
