Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

Very good feed by Colgate. Maine giving up two goals early in the third period was not good. Maine had a 2 goal lead at that point. I thought Colgate carried play in the third period but could not get the winning goal.

The tie was a just result; neither team played well enough to win that nearly-unwatchable game.

Brown and Byron were Maine's best skaters tonight, IMO. Didn't see enough overall raw talent from the younger guys to make me think that they're going to help propel the team to >.500... Not this season, anyway.

Byron reminds me of the Billy Ryan, skates with the puck a lot, dangles a lot, too bad he doesn't score like Billy. Brown gets the puck in close but can't seem to get a good shot off. It'd be great if those guys could get some goals

The start was too good to be true, this is the team I thought Maine was going to be. Struggling like they have the past few years. Hopefully they can bury Colgate tonight. Not sure why Hayes is playing for Perez or why Cochrane is in for Holway but I hope that changes tonight.

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

Is anyone else surprised that Maine has only been out-shot by 14 SOG in the 3rd/OT in the early going?

They have clearly been outplayed in the latter stages of most of their games, but I would have guessed that SOG disparity would be a little higher.

That is a great comparison. Byron will almost certainly end up with more goals and points than Billy, surprisingly enough. Billy had all the talent in the world and was a huge disappointment in my opinion(the two classes after his obviously didn't help his production). I wonder if he got burnt out or something else. His pro numbers were nothing close to where they should have been either.

It looked like Maine was playing a hs team at the start of the game. I was thinking it had been a long time since I had seen a Maine team dominate physically like they did. I posted this yesterday and it seemed to come true that being on a bus for so long takes really saps your energy. I agree Holway and Perez are much better but Red is wise to give everyone a game in case they need to come in later on in the season. Once Herner, Doherty, and Hoglund become eligible it will be tough for guys like Cochrane, Hayes, and Gibson to see the ice.

Still wondering when/if Herner is going to play. I keep waiting for Gibson to break out. Why is Robbins on 4th line? I knew the north country wouldn't be easy. Maine got a compliment from the Colgate play by play guy, he said this years team is far better than what he saw last year. Maine needs to win tonight or its going to be another long season

Red said in the pregame that they started benching guys last week, and it's gonna continue, I guess until he sees the effort and dedication out of these guys that he expects.

I assume that's why Robbins is on the 4th line, he started the season on the third, moved up to Byron's line, and now down where he is. I figure Red expects more out of him than he's' getting.

I thought maine players looked tired last night from what i saw, only part of the 2 and 3rd. Taking the form of getting off the ice on changes, poor passes, puck wacking, no hustle, and not finishing checks. Last saturday they were tired as well. Suppose the coaching staff has worked them very hard early on here during the week?

Colgate forward suspended for tonights game for shot to Michels head in OT.

Yeah, that hit was not good. Had to have gotten a concussion on that. Glad to see ecac take action on the player. Cannot believe the Colgate announcer actually thought that was a clean hit. Homerism much ?
A convincing black bear win tonight goes a long way

Morris in net, no cam or robbins, perez and Papparldo in

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

How the **** can they call that a good goal? #8 for Colgate literally shoves Morris into the net.

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

Nice shorthanded rip by Smith to get Maine back within 1...

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

time to close the book on morris... i'll give him a pass on the pp goal because he had someone in his lap, but has he made any save and not left a juicy rebound yet?

Get the puck anywhere in the slot and it's in. Morris just isn't a D1 goalie. Rob best be out in 2nd

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

To be fair, he's not getting any help from his defense who just let those guys camp out in front and hack away at the puck.

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

I'm not seeing a general concerted effort out there tonight. That to me is inexplicable
