Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

FWIW on Sunday morning I was driving to the golf course and had Sirius NHL Network on. They have a program early on Sundays called On Campus and the host was introducing Rob O'Gara who played 4 years at Yale and had made the Bruins opening day roster. O'Gara was well spoken and when prodded about his experience, particularly as a freshmen unprovoked added a very nice endorsement of a particular person who was influential in his development. The conversation was about the National Championship year when he was a freshmen and the host extolled the benefits he received being coached by Keith Allain at Yale. O'Gara reinforced how great Allain was but then added that of particular influence that year was one Red Gendron who prepared him so well and who he was sad to lose because of how much he meant. These comments made me think back to some recent comments by Ben Hutton about what Red taught him about stick position. Just reinforces that we have a guy who players respect and who we all hope now has players on board that resemble the kind of team he wants to see Maine be.

Thus far have to say I like what I see from this years addition!

Went to buy tickets for the Portland game vs BC today... what a deal at $30 a piece... and that's before the $12 in service charges per ticket... what the **** is wrong with these people? $84 for two tickets all in.... jfc...

I thought about going until I saw those prices, thats crazy for regular season games

It's ridiculous. I'd love to know how many tickets they've actually sold at that price.

My guess is they will probably do very well thinking Portland is a hockey starved city right now. I won't be shelling out $42 for a ticket unless it's to see them in the Frozen Four.

I agree. The game will probably be a sellout. No way I pay that much money for a regular season game. I haven't checked prices at other Hockey East schools lately, but my guess would be that Maine's prices are way out of line.

You bunch of old bags. Cherist it s a happening, doncha see ? Cardiac big ole meanie bears against the smt smurfs from beansville. Old one eye vs the whitehead revised. Chokers vs the cheetahs, why miss that, besides rumor is the WBG is due for,a reappearance

The BC game in Portland will EASILY bang out 6K......Portland is a different animal than Bangor/Orono......a lot more disposable income + no Pirates + attractive opponent in BC + Friday night game = good gate.

Bought my Saturday BC tix a couple of weeks ago.....$46 for 2 chairbacks 5 rows up. Can't wait for another football (vs. Villanova) & hockey doubleheader in Orono!

Well will this be the weekend that RG splits the goaltending? McGovern Friday and Mundinger on Saturday? UConn beat Notre Dame @ Notre Dame last night 4-2 behind there Goaltenders 47 saves (Adam Huska)...plus Merrimack and BC played to a 2-2 tie Wednesday night...interesting start to the season.

I'd be surprised if Rob didn't start both games. Playing in the north country is going to be tough. Hope they are ready for it

Agreed. I think Maine is the better team but seven or eight hours on a bus can't help the legs. I'd be pretty happy with a split even though Maine probably should do better.

Seen Colgate twice, and I believe Maine is capable of sweeping them this weekend. I'll be disappointed with anything less than 3 points, especially since garnering 3 points in the following 4 games v. BC/UML will be a tall order for this team.

As much as I loved that venerable old barn, Starr Rink, I'm looking forward to seeing 'Gate's new arena. (Got excellent seats for $17/per, BTW.) Anyone else making the looong trip to the hinterlands of interior NY?

If they played tomorrow at like 4:00 I probably would go but I wouldn't be home until like 2:00 in the morning with the 7:00 start. Nice to see a bit of optimism around here!

IMO we won't see Mundinger unless a win or a loss is imminent. Every win is critical now, have to go with No.1 goalie.

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

Yeah

What a disaster tonight, by far the worst result of the season. Completely thrown away in the third. Fishman was bang on about Colgate, they're awful.

Yup, pathetic performance in 3rd and overtime. I'll bet Fishman is happy he spent money to watch that crap :) Other than Rob, this team looks like last year once again.
