Well 2-0's a helluva lot better than 1-1 or 0-2. Now lets see how they look vs the Q. Its worth seeing tho and thats better than I expected. Nice surprise so far

Its one weekend but it was a fun one for the team. Things to take out of it. Freshman look good, Rob looks big and the PP needs work. 2 shorties in one game is 2 too many. You aren't going to beat Quinippiac going -2 on the PP. I will say RPI PK was excellent, very aggressive and seemed to know where the puck was going. Another thing, I think Maine had a conditioning advantage in the 3rd on Saturday. Looked to me like RPI was sucking wind.

On to Quinnipiac and Go Pats

Good start. Lets just keep rolling. Freshman class impressive so far. McGovern doing what he needs to do. Anyone seen Mundinger (sp) in action yet? That sob is huge. Can he move well? So far I would say Guite has done his job.

It was just nice to see a Maine team play hard again, have nice goaltending, not give up, and not have chitty body langue for once. Haven’t seen that combo in years.
Wonder what impact switching to Alfie Michaud as GT coach will have/has had on the goaltending?

RPI's Brady Wiffen was apparently injured in Friday's game. He was replaced on Saturday with a 7th defenseman instead of a 12th forward. Thus RPI could not skate 4 lines which could account for the "sucking wind" which I agree was the case. I assume that at least one of our three spare forwards made the trip, and I don't know why one wasn't dressed.

Red has most of HIS players on the ice now.....there is a noticeable difference in attitude and effort. And it also seems like there are now a few players that know how to handle and shoot a puck!

What a nice start to the season, and SO important for this freshmen class to learn to win early. As we have witnessed the last few years losing is contagious! And it has been like the chicken pox at Maine. I am much more distant than I had been, but I really had a feeling that this year was critical as it represented the first true year that this coaching staff brought in players that they had targeted and recruited. Results are very early but this freshmen class is answering many questions early.

McGovern, Morris, Mundinger must also provide competent goaltending. From what I can see McGovern is in much better shape this year and looks like an athlete. Nice start for him as well. Look forward to being on hand next Friday night for my first game in Alfond in a couple of years. Should they even garner a split it would be huge.

Earlier in this thread I predicted 8th for Maine in Hockey East and said that is nothing to be happy about. But if these boys can get a spot in top 8 and continue to be on the ascension while we watch others on the decent (Hi UNH) I think this class can be the one that eventually gets us back to the Garden and to where we all want, the NCAA tournament. Yes I am optimistic, it sure beats the hell out of the pessimism of the last 4 or 5 years!

A split against Q would be huge. Having a goalie who makes the stops he should and a few he probably shouldn't is huge. Rob did that this weekend. It looks like his glove side is where RPI tried to go Saturday night.

I'm going withhold judgement until they play a few more games. The freshman look like the real deal though.

My three most positive take aways from the weekend:
- Maine allows 3 goals all weekend. Wow. That's a great performance from a team that hasn't had much for defense and goaltending in the last 4 years.
- Fossier may be the first sniper type threat we've had since Abbott and Flynn.
- instead of folding in the 3rd, they dig deep and gut out a W.
These are very different characteristics from any Maine team in recent memory. Let's see if it is permanent.

Bought tickets for Saturday's game......first time in many years that I've done that. Huge day of sports at UM with Homecoming football & hockey.

I actually think Fossier looks much more like Nyquist than either Abbott or Flynn. He only scored 11 goals in 60 games last year and is actually more of a setup guy but he certainly took his chances when he got them over the weekend.

Nice to see the POSITIVE's this last weekend in scoring and in other area's but lets remember it's just 2 games into the season, a lot more hockey to be played and a lot of lessons to be learned as well....this weekends matchup is going to be a tough test and then off for two weeks on the road....by then we should be able to gauge better in what direction and areas this team has improved and needs to work on...all in all 2-0-0 is much better then losing.

It's 2016, is the University of Maine the only division one school in the country that is incapable of putting highlights of home games in their premier sport on the internet????

ADs office follows the facebook page, you might ask that question there and get a response. I think they did that last year even though there weren't many highlights.

Theyve had football highlights in Twitter for most games too. With cameras in the rink for replay anyway there must be highlights someplace...

Looks like if you scroll through the media onnthe MaineIceHockey twitter page theres some goals and some of Robs saves. Have to pass through a ton of semi annoying gifs but if thats what gets the students engaged then more power to em.

So on Saturday we have:

12 noon - UM Football vs. #17 Albany

3:00pm - Donald Trump @ CIC

7:00pm - UM Hockey vs. #3 Quinnipiac

Not to mention the Homecoming Craft Fair! I think that there might be some extra traffic in the area that day. ;)
