UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

They scored a couple 3 goals, what else do you want.

There is some talent there but Maine isn't going to win many games 6-5 or 7-6. It's hard to believe just how bad Maine's goaltending has been post Bishop. Maine might win a few games against Umass or Merrimack but it's hard to see how they beat anyone else unless Bub gets his act together.

No blah-blah-blah after another loss, sad now....not even worth it...is it.?

The huge decline in the number of people who care about Maine hockey should be the most terrifying thing for the athletic department.

Team might not win another game. Not even fun to complain about them anymore

That's the key, I wouldn't even waste my time listening to that crap last nighy, not for one minute. Fenway game, who the duck cares. I'm going to bu game to see the world jr players, not maine. D3 here we come

I was thinking the same thing. Was going to start up with coach complaints should be replaced etc, but why bother.

I was buying tickets to BU last night then I heard score of the game and put that on hold, not so sure now. I mean, there are good players who are enjoyable to watch, but ......

Would you go with Ben or someone else as coach? I'm at the point where I wouldn't mind giving Ben a shot next year and see what happens.

I'd be curious what people think about Alfie. Has he not been as good as we hoped? The wheels have really come off as far as the goaltending goes in the last six weeks.

I was never sold on Red. The University ****ed up. I'm still wishing we landed Jimmy instead of sitting on our ***.

I don't think Maine will ever be a top team again. I'm pretty much done with Maine hockey. Gave up my season tickets, and I haven't been to a game since.

Good question, I know very little about Ben or Jay for that matter. Red keeps them out of the public eye I guess. From what I hear keeping Ben and Alfie in the mix would seem reasonable.

It was just about salary, the AD wouldn't open up the check book and pay what it would take. IMO

Doesn't matter now, no coaching change is going to happen. I was excited about red but it seems like he can't get the guys motivated or can't get them to buy into his style or..... He hasn't helped himself with goalies who suck also

Like you are saying, nothing is going to happen after last seasons extension for 2 years by the present AD (Creech)....if and when there is a change (???)...no way should they consider the present Staff...what has either proved along with Gendron over the 3 1/2 years plus behind the Bench, just IMO....CLEAN HOUSE and go with "NEW" and NOT a MUST that they be from Maine Hockey, the so called Tradition is long gone and dead. Begin NEW and go from there...at least scan all the Div.1 College Hockey Coaches and Assistant Coaches....

As far as Montgomery being the Coach back when Whitehead was fired, there was NO CHANCE of him being asked or named to the Post...he was derailed by previous incident during his Assistant Coaching tenure. PLUS Denver was ready for Montgomery from the get-go and gave him just a short period of time to say YES to the job @ Denver, he either took that job or go back to the USHL as Maine was still lagging behind and had not even set a process to Interview Coaches...they BLEW it from the get-go....should have fired Whitehead a few days after the season and had a PLAN in place to interview Coaches. But that's Maine now...behind the 8-Ball and going backwards. A FAILED Organization to say the least.

Maine blew it in 02 when they didn't have a national search.

That's a point, but Maine really blew it with the Gendron hire; that's when we fell completely off the map. Timmy at least kept Maine within shouting-distance of the NCAAs, at worst.

FWIW, saw New England College tonight, who just beat the U-18 team that beat Maine a couple nights before. Kevin Swallow (Maine '10) has his guys playing smart hockey, and they are a relatively talented team... Red doesn't, and Maine isn't.
