Uhh, no. Bubba is coming off a shutout and they need to ride him the rest of the way.

Wally has a point, but this season is shot no matter how you slice it. Rob would a 3rd-string goalie on a good team. If he's the future of Maine 'tending, we're all going to have to stock up on booze and Rolaids.

(Still, I'm gonna watch on Saturday, and would like to see Mac start that game coming off a shutout, as opposed to a 7-2 shellacking...)

I wouldn't even dress him friday night, Morris and Mundinger on bench. How has Rob down lately besides the Fenway game. Not very. One game doesn't make a hot goalie. Getting shellaced at BU doesn't make for one either

Talking a lot of sense here. Red would do well to follow your advice.

As far as the confidence factor, I can see the point of not playing him (#35)...but at the same time I want the ONLY guy that has at least played good/decent in net for the game. I want the guy the team plays for most of the time.

And you will probably get that. Maybe the vacation did Rob some good but it didn't seem like he was playing very well towards the end of 1st half. I see little chance of Maine winning at BU, my guess is they get thumped. I can see them playing with BU at Alfond, maybe not win but keep it close it enough so there is a chance to win late. I think a fresh goalie gives them that chance. Obviously Red will do what he feels gives the team the best shot both nights.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Red play Bub Friday, get crushed, then play Mo on Saturday because of Fridays performance, and give up +4 goals anyway Saturday.
Trying to strategize out a point or two may be futile, but makes for something to talk about.

BU has a free stream in HD so you can watch on Friday too.

Thanks; hadn't thought to check. I'll beg off of dinner with the in-laws and tune in. Might be an exercise in self-flagellation to watch both games, though. I figger that the "over" is > 0 points for the weekend, and that there is no "under".

Capuano was just fired by the Islanders, what would he be like as coach?

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

Sign me up! A Maine guy who played and coached at the NHL level..? Please and thank you!

Maine has to seen as a stepping-stone to playing professionally by prospective recruits. That's the calculus they need to employ to get anywhere near prominence again. A guy like a Capuano (or a Corkum ) send a clear message: "We know how to do that from Orono".

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

If the N.Y. Islanders continue to under perform there could be a slew of former Maine Black Bears on the job market: Snow, Dunham, Corkum, Cronin...etc.

Absolutely agree. Play McGovern hard and against the toughest competition. He's not going to get better on the bench or against the lesser teams. Protect his confidence? By sitting him after a relatively big shutout? I don't think so.
Morris is a 6th year journeyman Div III tender. Tops.
This whole goaltending situation at Maine has been weak and disappointing. The Undertaker left the goalie cupboard totally bare. McGovern was a pleasant walk-on don't forget. At least McGovern can be a Div I tender when he wants to be...

Meanwhile, Nyquist! Gustav earns the Wings at least a point against the B's tonight, as game heads to OT.
