UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

Jesus... who didn't secure that door. That could have seriously hurt Holt.
You aren’t kidding. Seeing it on replay we are lucky if he didn’t do any damage to his left arm/shoulder/ribs.

Whomever is the guy in charge of the door should be have to be the goalie during warm ups when everyone is firing away.

Incredible effort.....best of the season.
Yep thought they really outplayed BU all night, so would have been a shame if they didn't come out with a win.

Barr pushed all the right button with the line combos too. Nadeau looked pretty good for a guy coming off a dislocated shoulder. Just having him back to stretch the talent out made a big difference in being able to run four lines to keep the pressure on BU all game.

For the how meh he looked on the first two goals, Boija really came up clutch after that. Really turned the tide in the second period as Langlois made a few DZone miscues and he bailed them out big time.

Peterson didn't get a point on Fowler's goal but his breakout and stretch pass was really nice. Can see why Barr has him paired with Holt right now, even if he's a bit of a liability in his own end.

Hopefully they have enough in the tank to finish off a sweep tmrw.

BU looks bad. I dont really understand Pandolfo's coaching style or the culture he's building but I understand why a stud would wanna play there; seems like they can do whatever and not work very hard. Either way his track record is extremely impressive. As others mentioned, Im definitely also impressed w tonight's effort and cohesion, but ya something is wrong w Boija. I dont understand the poor positioning, let alone poise. Forever grateful for how he locked down the last 4 min of regulation, but I didnt expect this poor play at all. This is also still the most insecure I've felt about the d corp over Barr's tenure. Just consistent positioning issues and neutral zone turnovers. Not sure what's up there either

Great resilient win though and really appreciate Barr's postgame callout to Poirier's work ethic. Kid is an absolute monster. Seems like he can drive and score at-will. And again as noted, Fowler and Komarov are excellent, w Sully, Russell, and Frank making strides too. Im really feelin for Josh, he's clearly worked hard and there's just some magic missing.

I really loved how they played tonight, and I would have said so even if they had lost. It was an excellent game to watch and was by far their best outing of the season so far. I think they looked much more like a team tonight than we had seen previously. The resilience is obviously the main story here, and it was quite impressive to be sure. Poirier is an absolute animal; I hope we get to see him for more than one year only. Let's go and do it again tomorrow, preferably in 60 minutes this time.

super fun game, that’s what i like to see in conference play be like. BU is a great team even with a significant absence up front, definitely a lot to handle.

poirier remains on fire in all ways (hair color, scoring, losing his shit on opponents at times) i know Marques has gotten some criticism and even scratched for his effort, seems like it might’ve worked from what i was able to catch. not perfect but he was much more noticeable. also langlois continuing to stay healthy and producing is so good to see.

another former black bear in the pros update- Taylor Makar was just called up. the Avs play in my home barn saturday and I’ll be at the game, so i possibly will get to see his NHL debut in short order

Well now, that was kinda fun. Guys seemed to be gelling already....seem to be figuring it out. Tonight will be a huge test for both of these teams. I doubt we will see it but I'd give Rousseau a shot in net tonight. I figure we are kind of playing with house money so what the heck. He might turn in a gem and give Booyaaa a break from the action. I would think, pretty certain, that BU will be burning its hair tonight, maybe even running the goalie given a chance. Maybe I should say crowding the goalie, lol. BU is such a clean team.

Key to tonight....solid goal tending, hard work and no dumb turnovers or penalties. Speaking of dumb penalties what's up with Frank this year? How foolish was it for him to attack the BU guys stick near the end of regulation....almost cost Maine the game.

I agree with most comments, Maine played hard, made mistakes and made up for them. Boija looked better as game went on but the first 2 goals were not good. Fowler was awesome last night. He does the little things. Poirier knows when to wait or get it on net asap. One of those guys that knows how to score. Did Holt get 1st star over Poirier? Not sure how that happened but choosing who gets 1st is a good problem.

I expect BU to be flying tonight, Lets see if Maine can handle that.

Based on last night, I don’t think BU has the speed to be considered flying. They appear to be big and skilled. I’d expect more of an attack the net front game from them. For that reason I’d leave Boija in and not introduce Rousseau to lots of screens and rough stuff in front. I think Maine needs Djuresevic, Motew, Chabrier to be strong in front. I’d even consider sitting Langlois in favor of Nobes to beef up the net front and hopefully cut down on risky passing that generates turnovers. Langlois needs to be stronger in his own zone and clear the net front. He’s big enough, but needs to get a bit nastier. Not sure it is in his nature. Like was I see from Motew overall though. Thought Coughlin looked ok but not a lot of minutes. I think Nobes needs some ice time and could be handy against the bigger forwards of BU.

The boys going to have enough in the tank tonight?
Have to keep it close.
Have to take time and space away from bu, like last night (thats always a corny thing to say but so true in this case).
Maine will get in a hole quick if they dont.

Apparently Boisvert for BU got a game misconduct last night after the final horn? I wonder how this will impact him for tonight, if at all.

I thought BU looked like a completely different team when the game was tied V when they had a lead. It seemed like once they were ahead they were content to just soak up the pressure.

I liked Nadeau and Poirier on different lines. They’re too small to be together 5x5. Hopefully Poirier can keep up the scoring but I’m sure word will get out quick on him.

In an ideal world you win games in regulation and lose games in overtime but right now Maine is doing the opposite. It’s far from ideal to go five straight games without a regulation win. With that being said the extra point was definitely a nice bonus last night. Hopefully Boija can steal one tonight.

Hockey East is down this season. BC was swept by Northeastern, BU is under .500. The Huskies and Minutemen are the only teams apart from Maine that are two games over .500 at this point. It would behoove both Maine and Northeastern to accumulate wins now because of the dearth of home games on the slate after New Year.

Totally agree with this. Those 2 should not be on the same line. I think that height is where their similarities end though. Poirier is more solidly built and more aggressive. They both have good hockey sense but I think that Poirier anticipates better and obviously has a better shot.
