Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

a friend of mine said that abbott was on the jab on friday and essentially said he expects maine to be top four in hockey east every year, in the ncaa tournament every year, and if that isn't the case, then changes will be made... wotehead might not be safe because of the two years remaining...

hahaha I think you got it right there. Tim Whathead.

Good and thats the WAY it should be @ Maine.

Yea and of course we also have the leading scorer and top scoring line in Hockey East. Should be an interesting matchup with BU this weekend.

Jackie will crush coach whathead.

BU has the talent and proven goaltender but has been inconsistent. We will be very competitive on our home ice given our recent momentum.

Whats happened to Big Papa?
Did he finally succumb to the cool-aid?

Don't look now boys, but guess who has the # 1 ranked overall P.P. in Hockey East, clicking at 25%?

Tim's PP has been very good for years, as long as you ignore the shorties allowed.

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

Agreed, nice to see the pp getting going, its made a difference moving Abbott low. Seemed pointless from last year moving him from the left side point for his 1t, an this year having him playing the right side of the point(I realize they are playing a right overload now), if they aren't going to utilize his shot, he should be down low with Flynn and Diamond for those 3 to out cycle anyone. Those 3 down low made a lot happen, and Manges has seemed to fit in well on the point in the pp.

Is it my imagination or does our top line this year seem even better than last years? I almost think Tanner House was a weak link and Flynne at center makes them better, even without Gus. I'm sure you all recall that Nyquist was somewhat quiet in the goalscoring dept until later in the year, last year. Abbott is playing unconscious right now.

House was better suited to be a second line center in my eyes, but he was a good fit between Nyquist and Flynn.

Teams are gonna start keying in with complete focus on our top-line if the other lines aren't consistently chipping in.

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

Flynn is a MUCH better playmaker than House was. Moving him to center is taking away a bit from his goal scoring, but I have to admit he is a lot better he is a lot better defensively than I thought he would be. Abbott is a pure goal scorer- great shot and great individual moves. Also sees the ice pretty well. I think he can get lazy from time to time in the d-zone and his lack of speed may cost him at the next level. Diamond (when on the ice) compliments these guys extremely well. Doesn't pass the puck particualarly well but loves playing in front of the net and grinding it out(opens up space for Abbott and Flynn). The only time I've seen these guys get outplayed was at BC this year. They should have a lot to prove when the Eagles come up to Orono.

This team is doing nothing more than the teams of the last few years have done. Beat the teams underneath them most of the time, while losing to the teams above them in the standings. If a couple wins over crappy Vermont have given you a woodie, good for you, but until they can show they can beat the BU's, UNh's and BC's of this league, it's still the same-ole same-ole.

The matchup with BU should be a good test, but I'm not too optimistic they pass it.

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

Does BU have a Friday night game? If not Jackie will devise a plan that will keep the first line off the board, unless Maine can get a lead with the 2nd or 3rd lines. Look at the record of Timmay against Jackie, pathetic come to mind. You remember when a certain poster used to throw all those stats up here inferring Timmay was one of the best, what happened to that argument anyway?(besides Grant retiring and Campbell leaving)

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

BU@UNH Thursday night. Could be a miniscule advantage for Maine if BU leaves their campus WED. Plays Thursday, on the road Friday, game Saturday.

I believe they head up to Orono Thursday after the UNH game.
