UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

Unfortunately, I have gone from justifying losses several years ago to expecting them now. I had 6 tickets to UNH/Maine at Fenway last weekend. I invited 2 friends who I have traveled to most of the HE schools to watch games in the past few years. Neither was interested. Neither thought traveling to watch Maine was worth it any more. Another fan, who went to Orono and lives in the south has stopped following the team altogether. When I asked him why, he said that if they are not competing in the NCAA tournament, why waist his time?

I am/will be a life time fan. Watching the program develop as I grew up made me an adict. It sucks feeling as though most fans care more for the team than the coach. I do not know Timmay, anyone in UMO administration or any players like some on this board. I can only point to what I see. If there was ever a game to get in a ref's face, it was last night. Instead,Timmay stood there looking apologetic as he got the explanation for the goal disallowment. He is not even acting like a coach who is feeling pressure for non performance. I do not know much about the new AD, but most people seem to think he was a good hire. Lets hope he understands how many fans are moving further and further away from the program.

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

I said excellent game not excellent season. He logged a ton of minutes, played in every situation and skated hard. Tons of effort plays, clearing pucks by sticking with them, really good on the forecheck. Maine needs more of that.

Agreed that he played hard/got in on the forecheck. As far as logging a ton of minutes, that is great but he got nothing done in the offensive zone- as has been the case for the second line all year. 6 non pp goals between mangene , beattie and shemansky,(12 total goals) terrible.

If Timmy would have lost his rag what good would it have done? There were less than 30 seconds left in overtime. On top of that five or 10 minutes had passed since the play had happened.

I understand why people are upset and have lost interest but nothing lasts forever. We found that out with the glory days and I think that the bad days are coming to a close soon too. I feel like things have bottomed out and don't think Tim will be around a lot longer. I think Maine is in a position where they have someone who can take over and be successful long term now where that wasn't in place a few years ago.

As far as making excuses, I'm going to write my thoughts on the game good or bad and think others should as well.

It would have shown me he cared, at least a little, and was not sticking around to collect a check. Was he really going to do something in the last 30 seconds to win the game for the team? Not unless standing there chewing gum helps win games. I agreed Maine gets hosed on some big calls. If he got tossed, all the press after the game could have been highlighting the calls that have hurt Maine this year and past years. I am surprised Timmay did not think of it himself. The Purcell excuse seems to have finally run its course, this could have been a new one.

Do you think Jack Parker gets some calls his way, just because. What about Shawn, did he get some, especially in Alfond when the crowd was going wild? Thats why bother with 30 secs left. They play again this weekend

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

Thats why Timmay should have thrown a hissy fit, he might get a call his way next time.Obviously a replay is a replay and Bendetto has to call it from the tape but other calls not so.

I like Rutt also, he actually hits people, probably why he doesn't play
Rutt is a player and your right...he should be playing more...he has the tools to be a real decent d-man...and better one without TW running the show.

I think everyone needs to take a step back for a minute. Benedetto's mother passed away yesterday morning. Wouldn't surprise me if Whitehead knew that and decided it wasn't a great time to rip on the call.

That would make some sense

I find it very hard to believe there was any sort of rationale on Timmy's part:rolleyes:

According to the BDN, Merrimack didn't have audio at the rink and if they would have the goal would have counted. It's a HEA rule that rinks are required to have audio, so is there any chance this gets revisited?

No

There you go.

Hate it when life interferes with hockey; been there a little too often myself, lately... (Not that I think that Tim would've reacted any differently had Benedetto just won the Mega-Millions.)

You do not have to hear a whistle the intent to blow it is all that is needed and the ref is the only one to say when that has occured......dumb but true

Let's Go Black Bears!

Boys are ramping it up for a nice win streak. Can you feel it? I can!

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

It's really quite sickening that physical teams like Merrimack can abuse this team and any matching response is actually frowned upon by Whathead.

Did you watch Saturday? I thought Maine their most physical game of the year.

Only listened to the game, but it still sounded like Maine was getting worked.

Wonder if the players were frustrated from getting it handed to them Friday night or if Timmay instructed them to amp up...

Sorry to interrupt, but this is sad news to hear, and I'd like to offer sympathies. Benedetto also does some ECAC games along with HEA.

Probably a bit of both. Merrimack took it to them on Friday night and I thought Maine responded well Saturday, particularly early on. Definitely would not say Maine got worked. Would give them a slight edge in play and physicality Saturday after definitely getting worked Friday.

Hopefully some of that physicality shows up against BC this weekend.

I think given BC's recent struggles it's reasonable to think Maine can split this weekend:

While watching college hockey recently I witnessed the "intent to blow the whistle" on two difference occasions in the same weekend where goals were disallowed. In one game it made no difference but the other was a different story. The announcers question what had happened and the chief of officials called in saying that was the on ice ruling.
