Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?
For those concerned Maine finishes too high, which keeps Timmy around another year or two. I agree this is a big concern. Maine might be terrible. They might only have one line with scary bad goaltending and defense, but look around the rest of the league. UVM and UMass stink. NU was rock bottom until they won a few games lately. UML and PC are improved, but I think they'll fall back to Earth.
the internet nutcases (the only ones buying tickets anymore) and apologists (who either have not been due to not being allowed out of their mother's basement, or due to having children attend other Hockey East Schools) are used to Maine not only finishing top 4 in the league, but also contending at least 50% of the time for a national title.
finishing 4th and not getting to the NCAA tournament is not something that many of us care to witness.
WE helped build the team, we donated we traveled to a zillion away games, we went to banquets and bought all the trinkets, posters, antique FOMH newsletters, and then donated them back to be re-auctioned... it WAS a team that we felt part ownership in... back when Shawn told us it was our team and when he sold us on MAINE HOCKEY
Tim does not get that. Tim does not understand that the good players used to come to Maine to play for Shawn and to be developed by Shawn and Grant.... that is all gone. Tim comes across as saying "they come to wear the sweater", "there is honor in the sweater"
The players went there to be taught how to make it to the next level.
This is Tim's team, Tim's system and Tim's failure.
Have at it Tim... you couldda saved a lot of face had you taken that Hamilton job a couple years ago... you couldda retired in 20 years as a successful D3 coach and maybe a D3 legend, instead people are all going to remember the Spencer Penrose Trophy that accidentally had your name on it, when it should have read GRANT STANDBROOK at the bottom.
