Brilliant...absolutely brilliant !!

So who won the pizzpot last night? Did 3 of the teams just concede it to Hahavid this year out of sympathy ??

Harvard? What about NU? They have the longer drought...

The Blackbear's site says that Friday's game is on WABI @ 7:00pm and that Saturday's game is @ 7:00pm but also says "Game time will be set two weeks prior to game due to tv obligations." WABI's site says they are showing Friday's game but not Saturday's. NESN's site says they are showing the Lowell/BU game on Saturday.

Is Maine's Saturday game actually on TV or did I just misunderstand their schedule site?

Congratulations to Brian Flynn, Will O'Neill and Joey Diamond for being among 21 finalists selected for the Walter Brown Award. This award is for the top American born college hockey player in New England.

I find the most reliable tv info comes from the WABI local sports sched. site. They are saying only the fri night game is on and NESN did not opt for the Maine-UMass game sat. I find the UNiv Maine athletics site/sched of tv games is pathetic. Its confusing the way they list the tv games and is at times innacurate.

The UMaine athletic website is pathetic. It really needs a revamp.......has been horrible for a few years now.

Friday night game is on WABI, no Saturday game because of NESN

So UNO will get the sacrificial lamb in the first round..?

KC seems like a weird place to site this thing. I'm guessing that great seats will be available on game night, unless they're priced to move (maybe at or around $7/adults, $3/kids.)

I'm completely in favor of growing the sport wherever it's possible, but this venue at this time looks like a very hard sell to me.

KC area has been sniffing around for a NHL or NBA team for a few years...they have a New Arena in place...had the KC Scouts many moons ago, they never let it work and moved to Colorado(Denver)and they too didn't wait long enough and ended up as the New Jersey Devils. Attendence wise you'll have Maine with a good group and UNO/Notre Dame will be closer to KC,Army I would figure does not have that much of a Fan traveling group...I would think there hoping for the Locals to catch onto it.

This will be Maine's third appearance in the 16th annual Ice Breaker Tournament. Ticket prices are $40.00 for all two day sessions. Maine hosted the tournament in 2001 at Alfond Arena and were at Colorado Springs in 2005.

Well, I'd go, but $40 a pop will keep the curious at home I'll bet, especially in a town that has no college hockey history. This thing would sell out in Orono.;)

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

I made a mistake in a previous post.:o This is Maine's third appearance in the Ice Breaker Tournament not fourth. I corrected my previous post. Kansa City Stars had Maine appearing for the fourth time. I went to another site listing the history of the tournament and only found Maine in the tournament twice prior to this year. The other appearance was Colorado Springs in 2005.

Finally a fun game at Alfond:D. Maine was all over UMass, right from the start. Good to see a blowout, I doubt tomorrow will be. Wasn't to happy to see Umass gain some confidence in the 3rd, Timmay took his foot off the pedal which when up 6-0 I guess is ok but don't like their goalie getting any confidence for tomorrow.
Joey's goal was a beauty, too bad he doesn't know enough to say when, when taunted or pushed around. Has to play with a chip on his shoulder but stupid penalties hurt the team.

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

So to Wally, and to every other season-ticket holder: what do you guys make of this abrupt turnaround? (Aside from the HUGE improvement in net, which is obvious to us all.)

Is Maine more aggressive on the forecheck, are they less likely to play passively with the lead, are they being physical when the situation calls for it,etc..? And do you notice a sea-change in the coaching approach, in general?

I'd like to hear some specifics from you guys who see so many games. A few weeks back, I in no way, shape or form, saw this coming. (I'm still scratching my head, but I'm having a much better winter all of a sudden.)

Some first-hand analysis would be interesting to read. Thanks.
