Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

Please notice that my comments were directed towards your color guy, not your program. Maine has scheduled UAH a number of times since we've gone D-1. Our guys always love the trip because they love the atmosphere. It's usually decent hockey [unlike what we played Saturday night], too. I've not made the trip to Orono, as the 2003-4 trip around this time of year [1-0 Maine win, 2-2 tie] was the year after I stopped doing radio. I'd love to make the trip some time and see Alfond for myself.

One of our player-parents emailed Whitehead [sorry, TIMMAY] to thank him for the series, and his response included indications that there could be games each of the next two seasons. I can only be hopeful that one of those years would be down here, although I'd expect that would be in the Nashville weekend we have done the last two year and will probably continue to do.

Best of luck the rest of the season. I'm sorry we didn't spoil your Pairwise like we did Denver's, though.

GFM

Well, I'm delighted you guys didn't... A loss against Huntsville would have sunk Maine like a stone. That improbable comeback might turn out to be the most desperately-needed win of the season for Maine, as far as the PW goes.

If I'm Abbott, I don't want to schedule UAH any more. There is no up-side there. They might have a lousy W/L during any given year, but they always seem to come to play... A contending team has little to gain and much to lose with the Chargers on their docket.

well, not that Ouellette has been Matt Lundin-esque... but there was not a lot more Matty couldda done

Maine has had a number of terrific #2s in the past, and Matt was certainly among them... Frank Doyle was another, and either he or Matty would easily be getting all the starts right now, IMO. (But they're not here anymore, and I've become a fan of Sully... Cross your fingers that he stays healthy.)

According to Tim, Diamond and Shemansky status still unknown for this weekend. No mention of Pryor, he must be o.k.

And thats exactly the challenge Walshy used to embrace for his teams. Must win situations to prepare them for the playoffs. My o my, havent our goals been minimized by our current staff.

Agree completely. Any time you schedule teams that come out tough every night, regardless of their record, it's gonna help our team.

That come from behind win on Friday will definitely help the team mentally down the stretch.

Do you remember what Walsh said before the UNH games at the end of the 1999 season?

Do you remember what Walsh said before the UNH games at the end of the 1999 season?

" Fight and you may die. Run and you'll live -- at least a while. And dying in your beds many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom."

Anybody know who he was quoting? I'm curious.

Thanks for the link.

Never saw that movie. Think it was just before Mel lost it..?

Can't believe that Shawn would trot that out for a hockey game, even if Maine was playing Al Queda that night... Seems a bit over the top to me.

I wonder how many guys in that locker room rolled their eyes, then went out and won it anyway. :p

Blurb on the news tonight talking about this weekend, the guys were talking about Lowell and not PC, hope thats the way it was edited and they aren't overlooking PC.

Neither games will be Cake-walks this weekend...PC will play Maine tough and Beaudry can steal a game...UML believe's in themseleves and have already beat Maine twice on the road...difference here is which Teams goalie stands out..Maine's Sullivan or UML's Carr.

Another blurb on the news tonight with the team at EMMC pediatric ward, you could tell Will O'Neil was really moved by the visit. The kids had giant smiles on their faces. Good stuff

Will is one of the finest young men to ever wear the Maine jersey. A true class act.

Join the Black Bears of Boston at the Brewery Exchange in Lowell for a pre-game event at 4:30 on Saturday. The Brewery Exchange is located at 201 Cabot St. Lowell.

I have gotten the impression that the UAH weekend was a kinda-sorta favor to Huntsville, since they were having trouble scheduling games at the 11th hour. I certainly could be wrong about that, but I wouldn't ask them up again, nor Bentley, nor Air Force, et al.

I'd rather see a MN-Duluth in Orono anytime, or a good HEA rival.

Playing a good team, win or lose, is somewhat worthwhile no matter what, whereas UAH and the like will not help you out one iota if you beat them, and will kick you really hard in the sack if you drop the ball. There's just no good reason to ever put yourself in that situation, IMO.

It's not about dodging tough opponents... It's all about the PW (as we all know) and the PW punishes under-scheduling very severely when things don't go as predicted.

I didn't get it, but that's not unusual... :D Kinda glad to hear that Shawn didn't actually go there.
I don't know, thats one of the greatest movies ever made, why not quote from the best:)
