UMaine '18-'19: Back to the Nationals!

I am up & down with this team...I figured they could improve from last year, by that being a lot smarter on the ice and staying away from the dumb penalty's...so far I am wrong on that...I still lay my faith in Swayman...he can do only so much...he needs the front of his net cleared out...at times too much camping by the rival team...cut out the dumb penalty's/make room for Swayman/and put the puck on net, not over and 10-15 feet wide/and DO WHAT other teams have done to Swayman...camp out and take the roughing penalty when they goon it up....easy said then done...dreaming...??? Maybe but not a hard task to ask and get done. Bazin will have his squad ready for Maine, Maine has to take Friday or else [imo]

Yeh but you just described normal operations over the last ten years, whitehead and red.

Actually, you nailed it. This is all that has to happen. The team needs to work smarter and not harder. Be smart and avoid killing penalties. Put in the d that demonstrate clearing the net front. Bench those that do not get it. Play the guys that have instinct to chip high of glass instead of forcing d2d and give up turnovers. Play the forward that you see behind the play that lowered head and got back to buckle down that trailer in the slot on the odd man rush. Play the guy that goes down to block shots up high when the point canon fires. Play the guy that makes the pass or play despite getting punished. This isn't rocket science. And the fans aren't asking too much. Coach and play to what we see you are capable of. The eye test is showing us nothing yet. It shows us lack of cohesiveness between players and coaches from a team defensive effort. Work smarter, not harder!

Having said all this still have to dress 18 or is it 19 now😁

I wish it was the kind of scenario where our two captains aren't combining for 14 penalties in 6 games... but...

So captains don't care, coaches don't care... let's employ this team for roller derby and the slingshot moves... crowd will love that.

Until then, I prefer smart hockey players where you can dress 15 for all I care.

If I was goalies on this team I would pop these flashy defensemen in the mouth.

Be like Bellicheck and put Michel in goal for a game. Let the weakest d play in front of him. Let the weakest backcheckers play. But only for a half a game. Then let Pearson get in goal for mop up duty.

Its about discipline, been lacking since walsh.
Everyone was looking for improvement in D, might have to wait some more.
They could get their heads straight soon, but Red is coasting to retirement it seems.

Ayuh. Listened to coaches show on tuesday. Seems like that way. Sad, he has horses on this squad.

Now, would the new AD wait and prolong for a forlong conclusion... or recruit now and remedy by years end? Umbrella shrinking quickly. Parlay Red into executive ad role and recruit baseball side wishing coach the best. But then again I get aggressive. Look at what Leamen is doing with PC.

I'm thinking Maine might be like the Red Sox; led by a mediocre at best coach who clearly needed to go but some people wanted to keep (Red/Farrell), and when hes gone and replaced by someone new (???/Cora), the team takes off and we see how much talent there was and how much they were being held back.

Actually Metcalf would be great. From first time he took rookie shift under Cullen... I said he would be great.

And that Metcalf gave as much as anyone. Just about willed a team to win and cried in minny. I know, unfortunatly i was there. As i was in boston when also lost. He would make an exceptional coach. Some times we have to call back...

metcalf coaching experience? zero? Blodgett was going to be great coach as she was a great player.

You won't see any Coaching Changes, face it for now RG is here...UNLESS the new AD can see the writing on the wall and make a BOLD MOVE next spring...as far as a who to hire "IF" such a change would take place....go out and get someone young with NO ties to the Maine program, fresh eyes/ideas and move on...there is NO Shaun Walsh on the horizon...

Perhaps a Tyler Walsh would do?

It would be interesting if Cavanaugh or Leaman would be interested in the job this time around. I get the impression neither was in play when Red was hired. They’ve both been at their current schools awhile and might want a change of pace. I’m not sure what their family situation is and how they would feel though.

Dont know about leaman, but wouldnt you think Cav would give it a look? Uconns rink situation is odd so coming to maine would give him a home with a good fan base. Not to mention the potential with this program.

Re: UMaine '18-'19: Back to the Nationals!

If maine sweeps this weekend, what then everyone going to be on the Red train next week?
