Re: UMaine '18-'19: Back to the Nationals!

Just something to keep an eye on, as Maine, UNH, BC and BU are a combined 3-16-2:

There has NEVER been a Hockey East final four without one of those four teams involved.

Don't worry, rules are made to be broken. I can't speak for fans of the other teams... But it appears this team is hell bent on failing despite their natural abilities.

Nobody with Brain Cell One thinks that Red is going to turn this thing around. He's buried Maine hockey deeper than Tim ever did.

But we still have field hockey! :p

I’m as pro Red as anyone but have my concerns. Red has done a much better job than getting talent in than Timmy. Timmy didnt get guys like keeper, Doherty, Robbins, and others that you need to be successful. It’s very frustrating to see Maine continually underachieve like they did against UConn. There is no excuse to be that bad.

The bu and bc start is something. These four teams going to be the bottom 4 in the end?
Probably not bu and bc but maine and unh could - hope not.

You really think that Red has out talented TW in the recruiting trail?

I overstated my case a bit, but while this Maine team isn't bankrupt in terms of talent, it ain't any great-shakes, either. TW absolutely plucked more plums on the recruiting trail, at least in terms of high-end guys. The players you cite wouldn't have been eye-openers on most of Timmy's teams, IMO.

On the up (?) side, HEA is so bad right now that Maine has a shot at the NCAA's via an AQ. :o

I see a split this weekend but a sweep either way wouldnt surprise me. Hopefully they stay out of the box.

Is it a bad sign that I read your comment, wondered who they were playing, and then cared so little I didn't bother to look it up?

Agree 100%. This is another huge weekend and I anticipate being underwhelmed. I was planning on going Saturday but might bail given how bad they played last weekend.

Im not optimistic, that way will be surprised if they play well. Bazins teams are typically disciplined.

I was really thinking this team would do something, after last couple weeks, lost that feeling some. Hope they get things going, this weekend will tell some more of the story.

Agreed. I was okay with how things went in Duluth, but last weekend was completely unacceptable. Maine had a great chance to get off to a good start in the league and completely wasted it. It wasn’t the first time they have struggled the weekend after a long trip. The coaching staff needs to make different travel arrangements or something so it doesn’t keep happening.

I am up & down with this team...I figured they could improve from last year, by that being a lot smarter on the ice and staying away from the dumb penalty's...so far I am wrong on that...I still lay my faith in Swayman...he can do only so much...he needs the front of his net cleared out...at times too much camping by the rival team...cut out the dumb penalty's/make room for Swayman/and put the puck on net, not over and 10-15 feet wide/and DO WHAT other teams have done to Swayman...camp out and take the roughing penalty when they goon it up....easy said then done...dreaming...??? Maybe but not a hard task to ask and get done. Bazin will have his squad ready for Maine, Maine has to take Friday or else [imo]

Actually, you nailed it. This is all that has to happen. The team needs to work smarter and not harder. Be smart and avoid killing penalties. Put in the d that demonstrate clearing the net front. Bench those that do not get it. Play the guys that have instinct to chip high of glass instead of forcing d2d and give up turnovers. Play the forward that you see behind the play that lowered head and got back to buckle down that trailer in the slot on the odd man rush. Play the guy that goes down to block shots up high when the point canon fires. Play the guy that makes the pass or play despite getting punished. This isn't rocket science. And the fans aren't asking too much. Coach and play to what we see you are capable of. The eye test is showing us nothing yet. It shows us lack of cohesiveness between players and coaches from a team defensive effort. Work smarter, not harder!
