UConn 2014-2015: Let the Hockey East Era Begin

Re: UConn 2014-2015: Let the Hockey East Era Begin

Appears simple strategy against UConn is work hard to get up a couple goals, because let's face it, they don't have the scoring power to recover from a multiple goal deficit. They still have a chance for home ice and they should be frothing at the mouth to play tomorrow night. Let's hope morale is still high and they had some good practices this week.

Let's go Huskies!

(y) Which is supposed to be a thumbs up.

Good first period. Need to score the first goal. Let's go boys, let's get it going this period.

Re: UConn 2014-2015: Let the Hockey East Era Begin

Not the start of the 2nd period we were looking for, but we'll see what these guys are made of now.

Re: UConn 2014-2015: Let the Hockey East Era Begin

Clearly UConn is out of gas. Understandable for a group of boys not having ever experienced the grind of a Hockey East schedule.

Couple important lessons have played out this year:

1. They can compete in this league
2. They need to get stronger in the offseason

Of course they also need more talented players and a full slate of scholarships is s start. Unfortunately we have to wait until 2016-2017 season for that, but next year should be better.

Let's hope they put up a good fight in their playoff round.

Re: UConn 2014-2015: Let the Hockey East Era Begin

They are a low scoring team for whatever reason. So how do you stay in a low scoring game against against a team with more scholarship players? You trap. But the coaching staff is on record saying they will never trap. So I guess they are not playing for today, they are playing for tomorrow.

We heard that in FB too. But I would be a lot more inclined to believe it in hockey as the hockey staff has much more credibility. In FB, I do not think they knew if they were on foot or on horseback.

It would be very stubborn for the coaching staff to say they will never trap, but clearly that's not the way Coach Cav won as much as he did at BC. Those teams won with speed and skill playing a style that attacks the puck, not sitting back playing rope a dope.

Would imagine that it would be hard to recruit top shelf players if they see you playing that way too. A lot to think about.

Re: UConn 2014-2015: Let the Hockey East Era Begin

Wow! That was fun! I think the coaches are onto something with that two days of rest thing. The boys were fresh and had plenty of jump and their sense of anticipation was impeccable. UMass rarely held it in the UConn end for any length of time although they did get a number of Grade A's. UConn's went in, UMass' did not. A thoroughly fun evening.

I only got to three games this year at the XL, but they were good ones. BC, Maine, and UMass. Might have to get to the tournament.

A nice touch, the XL announcer also recognized UMass' seniors before the UConn senior night ceremony began.

Re: UConn 2014-2015: Let the Hockey East Era Begin

Well, the Huskies sports scene is dominated currently by the little matter of beating Florida for the second time this year -- this time in the Final Four -- and whether or not the UConn Women can again hold serve tonight and possibly next weekend.

But let's talk college hockey instead. Can we get some predictions for a RS finish next year by the Huskies?

I'll start it off and invite the wrath, ridicule, and flames of established HE observers and predict 10th. As soon as the HE cognoscenti read this, I am sure that the laughs will be heard from Orono to South Bend. Yes, with league points there for the taking, the Huskies will no longer be seeing any back-up goaltenders and fifth lines. The opposition will be playing for real. But let's see what happens.
Well, I was off by one place by virtue of a tie breaker acheived by UConn hanging on and getting the tie against Maine at home with a disallowed Maine goal at the very end.

Gotta think the visionaries in HE are rubbing their hands in pleasure about how things are tuning out. They added two teams in seamless fashion, total attendence and TV revenue are up, and the RS ended with a lot of increasing natural rivalries: BC v ND, PC v MC, ME v NH, UMass v UConn with the potential for others in the future. A symmetric tournament coming up with a full 12 team league, and the only thing lacking is a return of a HE team to the NCAA final. That should come soon. Gotta like the future. It is a pleasure for us UConn fans to be part of HE.

They earned 9th place, although as match-up's go, I'd almost prefer they didn't earn it. I like a series against VT better than UNH, as I think UConn can skate with VT. UNH has also been a buzz saw in February, going 6-2 and certainly turning things around. That said, there's a reason UNH lost 11 games. One could conclude UConn has demonstrated their ability to play with every team in the league, except UNH, so there should be an incensed competitive fire from within ready prove they can skate with them.

Had the same thought. But if the coaches don't work them too hard this week, they should be able to skate with UNH.

Fired up for the game tonight. It's absolutely imperative for UConn to start strong. Take the crowd out of the game and compensate for the lack of UConn goal scorers. If they have to play from behind, they are in trouble. Bleed blue baby!

Sounds like you've not visited the Whitt.

Re: UConn 2014-2015: Let the Hockey East Era Begin

Have been there many times. I don't care where it is, a good start for the road team tempers any crowd. Might not silence you crazy fans, but definitely tempers the energy.

Re: UConn 2014-2015: Let the Hockey East Era Begin

Tip for next year, find another guy to do games on radio with Will Moran. This guy Alex(?) has been brutal all year. Torturous. Will is fantastic, his partner is so atrocious it's distracting.

Re: UConn 2014-2015: Let the Hockey East Era Begin

Thanks to the seniors for a great ride!! That was a great inaugural season in Hockey East. Sorry it had to end the way it did but all we can ask is that you gave it your all. Bad luck to have finished the RS in 9th and having to face one of the hottest teams in HE when it might have been an easier route if the RS finish had been lower. That is just hockey.

Can't wait for the next season's schedule with hopefully fewer games away from the XL. I wasn't sure how the XL would work out this year but it was fantastic as a home rink. Great college hockey ambiance and a hockey band right up there with the nation's best with deep bass tones and an evolving repetoire.

The seniors came in during an era when scholarship money was difficult to come by and very thinly spread. But they will be tough to replace even with the additional rides. We will remember those names in Husky Hockey lore.

Re: UConn 2014-2015: Let the Hockey East Era Begin

Glad to see that UCONN had a very good opening season in Hockey East, they proved they belong and with that said they have a strong goaltender and a up and coming Coach to build around...good job...sadly you did hit a bump in the road at the end of the season...but a strong showing for your Program. A strong Hockey East from 1 through 12 is a must.
