UConn 2014-2015: Let the Hockey East Era Begin

Re: UConn 2014-2015: Let the Hockey East Era Begin

Look for Mike Mottau to land at U Conn

Jeff Cox had this earlier today:

Hearing over wknd that Mike Mottau is in line to replace Mike Souza as assistant at UConn. He and Cavanaugh are very close since days at BC.

Mottau seems to have been a candidate for Cav's staff when he first got the UCONN job:

Very interesting hire by Cav if true. In Cav we trust!!!

My sources indicate he was close to accepting, as he and Coach Cav are close, but his family does not want to leave the south shore of MA. Apparently Souza never moving to CT from Providence stuck in Cav's craw and he does not want that situation again.

There is another BC alum ready to accept, and personally I believe will be a great assistant coach. Not revealing names or sources, but this guy, although not the big name like Mottau, will be a perfect fit with Cav and Joe P. Great hockey family, a long minor league career and a tremendous personality for recruiting. Stay tuned.

From @MarkDivver yesterday:

Former @BCHockeyNews defenseman Brendan Buckley is strong candidate to fill upcoming vacancy on @UConnMHOC staff, per multiple sources.

Such a good choice. Brendan is a character guy with a great recruiting personality. It doesn't hurt that he spent the last couple years evaluating talent for his brother Jerry. I love this choice and I think the supporters of the program will as well.

Re: UConn 2014-2015: Let the Hockey East Era Begin

Hawkstar12 the ONLY source I saw linking Mottau to replace Souza is Jeff Cox. The UCONN beat writer has Buckley and Jon DiSalvatore (South Windsor CT native and PC class of 2003) named as candidates in a post on twitter yesterday. Was Mottau actually even offered the job by Cav, or was this Cox throwing something out there hoping it would stick? Cav is going to make the right hire for his program...that I am sure of. In the end UCONN needs to get the on-campus arena/team facility going or it won't matter who Cav hires.

Uh ... bottom left?
It wasn't there last night when I put my post up Dick...I asked Tim Fonteneault beat guy from Daily Campus about it and he said it was a mistake by UCONN.

Here is his response on twitter:

From UConn: This was an error. Roster also didn't clarify Raycroft is still volunteer. He is.

Maybe too this means they made him an offer he couldn't refuse to stay.

It's been a week and the Souza shoe has not yet dropped. Interesting.

Btw, what is holding up the UConn and HE schedules? The Hartford Wolfpack schedule?

Hockey East has a reputation for releasing schedules very late. They only did it fairly early in the past couple of years due to the conference re-alignments.

Finally after much speculation..Souza is on the UNH staff: http://unhwildcats.com/sports/mice/coaches/Mike_Souza
He is still listed on UCONN hockey official website: http://www.uconnhuskies.com/sports/m-hockey/mtt/conn-m-hockey-coaches.html
The Brendan Buckley watch starts now

I got the link from the UNH thread...it still seems to work ok for me. Either way it's official now...time to move on.

You're right. It was the word "mice": in the address that tickled me.

Best of luck to Mr. Souza, your "CIW". I wish him luck in helping to restore the full luster to the UNH program. I'm sure many of my fellow Husky fans feel the same way.:)

Actually I'm a UCONN season ticket holder...I wish Mike Souza luck heading back "home" to UNH..he did a good job while he was here...looking forward to seeing who Cav brings to UCONN as Souza's replacement.
