UConn 2014-2015: Let the Hockey East Era Begin

Re: UConn 2014-2015: Let the Hockey East Era Begin

Huge win. On the road stealing points from a team they will be competing with standings-wise all season long. 3-4-1 in Hockeyeast.

Re: UConn 2014-2015: Let the Hockey East Era Begin

Got the W last night at Army resting Nichols and right now we are up 1-0 on UMlol after 2.

Re: UConn 2014-2015: Let the Hockey East Era Begin

Final 2-0 win for UConn. No chance any of us had them .500 in Hockeyeast play midway through January. They better watch out, or we'll be hearing Brass Bonanza in the Hockeyeast Playoffs.

Re: UConn 2014-2015: Let the Hockey East Era Begin

Love the on-ice product. But what is the point of all these Bridgeport games??? The Wolfpack are out of town next weekend and yet the Notre Dame game is at Webster?? Last night was the first game at the XL in seven weeks!! And it did not sell out. They ought to worry more about the fan base here than down there (if fan bases are indeed what they are worried about). My guess is that Webster agreed to take the tournament off their hands in exchange for some dates. Either that or UConn wants a better price for the XL and this scheduling is a negotiating ploy. Otherwise the scheduling does not add up.

I agree with you, but it's not that big of a deal. You seem to have severe angst with a few games in Bridgeport, don't sweat the small stuff, water under the bridge. They will play plenty of games in Hartford the next two months.

This team is creating a great identity for themselves. Hard working underdogs with the ability to win Hockeyeast games night in and night out. Regardless of having half of the scholarships. Their transition has been very impressive, from the players to the coaches to the entire organization. Coach Cav and staff deserve a lot of credit.

Tough road trip to South Bend ahead this weekend, a split would be a very solid weekend.

Anyone know how long Schwartz is going to be out?

I think 7 weeks without a home game in the XL in the middle of the season is not small stuff. It is crazy scheduling.

Trip to South Bend is only one game. Then a "home" game at Webster where they don't play as well.

Congrats to UConn on a nice win last night. The Huskies did a nice job in their own zone blocking shots. I thought the crowd was good and the fans seemed to be into the game. Other than the results I enjoyed my visit to the XL Center.

Lowell is in the middle of a stretch of 7 weeks without a home game as well.

I think the Bridgeport games will end. I'm guessing getting 1k at Bridgeport vs 7-10k at XL will force the issue. Money talks. I understand why they bring the Men's basketball team there for a few games but the hockey team just doesn't make sense.

Sux, doesn't it? I will say something about Lowell. They were one of the few teams in the power conferences when UConn was in the AHA who would schedule the Huskies or come to the Classic. We really appreciated that.

Of course, I think the term power conference may now be rapidly losing its meaning. While not at complete parity yet, the AHA is closing in rapidly on that status.

But it's like arguing a bad call, it ain't changing this year. I also think this was a one year hiccup with regards to Bridgeport, because of course UConn hockey would rather play with the home ice energy at XL. Just keeping things positive; the team we root for is a bunch of hard working, tough, overachieving 18-24 year olds. Credit the coaching staff for making them believers, credit the players for making us believers. This year has already been fun, and this team doesn't appear to be letting up.

Got it on the weekend, either way points are at a premium from here on out....wherever they play.

Re: UConn 2014-2015: Let the Hockey East Era Begin

If UConn finishes with a .500 or better record this year in HE, and that is a really big IF, does Coach Cavanaugh deserve HE Coach of the Year honors?

Talk to us in March about that when that question might make sense. All you are doing now is jinxing the Huskies. ;)

I was just throwing it out there for fun, but yeah, you're right, let's keep talking about how terrible it is that they play games at Webster Bank. That's a great discussion.

The AHA is 1-15-0 against Hockey East this season. Link. Somebody beat a former conference member. ;)
How is the AHA doing against the other conferences?

Thanks for the reminder.

On CPTV Sports last night they talked about UConn BB games in Bridgeport. Apparently driven by eventual conference realignment (which is driven by FB). A bigger footprint in Fairfield county (and by corollary, NYC) is desired.
