Re: UAH Hockey 2018-19

So it's an overage guy from South Africa (that's kinda cool) and a 19-yo smallish defenseman who'll probably get another year in juniors. Two guys from out west ... is Lance working his magic again?

I passed out at my desk and found this browser tab open.

I'm gonna post it before I do it again.

Is there a pending vote for approval on this or is it simply at concept level at this point? I know that Dr. Altenkirch has been a big supporter of UAH Hockey. With incoming President, good to hear he sounds supportive of including a facility for hockey in an expansion..... hoping perhaps Dr. Altenkirch sees this project as part of his legacy and continues to support the project in retirement!!

This is something that Altenkirch is very passionate about. He once told me that he'd like to work this after retirement. (He did not tell me that he wanted a hockey facility there.)

This has been submitted to the BoT, but I don't know when they'll vote on it. Between this and a new President, they've got a lot to consider.

Apparently the board will vote on the proposal in June:

Another recruit, defenseman Lucas Bahn, a former UNH recruit.

Re: UAH Hockey 2018-19

Interesting article on UAH hockey from College Hockey News:
https://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2019/05/03_Putting-a-Charge-In-the-Future.php

More on the on-campus facility and recruiting and scheduling. I found this very interesting:

"Huntsville is making a point to do home-and-home series with these teams, which will be a theme in their future schedules. Both Lowell and Omaha will travel to Huntsville during the 2020-21 season. Boston University is also confirmed for a home-and-home in the next few years, with the Chargers heading to Agganis Arena first."

Big get to have BU come down to Huntsville. It'll be interesting if we have the new arena by then.

By the way, June 6-7 is the next UA BoT meetings in Tuscaloosa. It's expected they will vote on the mixed-use development and the multi-use facility then.

So if you get a new on-campus rink, will you bid for an NCAA regional at VBC? :D

Give us 5-10 years in the building first. The Predators may well consider working with us on that. God knows that we're a better choice than most of the Midwest sites we've seen lately.

I keep waiting to win the lottery so I can put my name on the dang thing. That's not where I would've put it, for a few reasons, but I get why it's there.

I actually wonder if that old wives' tale that I've heard about Cummings Research Park (title of your sex tape) is true and that everything in the park yields back to UAH in 2063. If so, having Campus straddle Sparkman in whole and not in part might be in the 20-year future.

[Before converting to NASA, I was a Teledyne Brown guy for 14 of my 15-year aerospace career. CRP has a place in my heart.]

The people I talk to in Nashville don’t seem to think the Predators are very likely To take a shot at either the regionals or the Frozen Four due to the fact that with the SEC BBall tourney at Bridgestone, they don’t want to lose any more home date flexibility during the playoff run.
However, there are plans in the works for a two sheet facility with an 8-9000 seat arena the the Preds will manage in Clarksville that will house a minor league affiliate. That might make a good regional host.

Yeah, the SECMBB locked that down. They might work with us, though.

From what I saw of the NCAA's requirements, the lack of amenities for media alone (the dusty press boxes with low-hanging beams and the lack of designated areas for TV cameras) pretty much disqualify the VBC.

I wonder if any opposing radio guy hasn’t cracked their head on those beams in the “highest dungeon in the South” at least once...
