UAH Hockey 2015-16: The next step

Re: UAH Hockey 2015-16: The next step

Thanks! I like him...he will be good if he can work discipline and structure into his game. Is Mick coming in with you guys next year?

I hope they don't bring him in for next year. Frankly I'd rather just pull the kids commitment but they won't. He hasn't developed and he has been injured in the last 3 years. I think we can find better recruits than him in my opinion.

Great kid...and Dad is a great guy. Logan never developed the tough his dad had but has the same work good work ethic. I fully understand why they wouldn't pull his commitment, and in the long run it could be a good move.

I looked up the stats on Starzynski at NMU and correlated that with what I saw. I don't think that we lost too much.

Starzynski was among or near the Top 10 in the League in Face Off % and was a very solid #3 Center, excellent defensively and got some #2 PK time and has some offensive upside that should improve as he moves forward. He improved the stat line each year in junior and we expect to see that at NMU. Steady improvement as the season progressed. Solid kid, terrific attitude & work ethic. Very good in the room.

Maybe I'll be wrong about that, but all I see as a difference between him and Wilcox, as far as all that goes, is that Starzynski has a bit better wheels. Admittedly, that's in UAH-NMU games where mainly I was watching through tears with Shine lighting up our goalies...

As best as Michael and I can tell, Jared Ross has retired from pro hockey. I don't know if he's back in town or not. If he is, I hope to sit down with him sometime soon to talk puck.

Re: UAH Hockey 2015-16: The next step

So, only 14 home games this season! There isn't any non conference games this season at home, pretty disappointing schedule.

Re: UAH Hockey 2015-16: The next step

The four teams in the Mariucci Classic December 30th-31st will be as following Minnesota, Mercyhurst, UMass, and UAH.

Lakers at Huntsville on parents' weekend - great! Was hoping that's who it would be.

Unless I counted wrong, there are only 3 2-game sets in the whole conference where we're hosting non-con opponents (Now, that doesn't include the Brice and Gold Rush, and there are some fairly big revenue home-and-homes, including Kato vs. Gophers, but still...). On the one hand, it gives us some opportunities to get the road win bonuses in the Pairwise, but on the other hand, it advances the narrative of a lower tier conference.

Yeah, Michigan Tech also has zero non-conference home games. Not counting tournaments, I calculate 32 percent of all WCHA non-conference games are at home (true home, not "neutral" like the two-game set NMU has with Wisconsin in Green Bay). Goes up to 39 percent if you count the Brice Goal Rush as home games for UAF and Kendall Classic as home games for UAA.

As for our schedule...October's going to be brutal. At least we're not at home during the Iron Bowl...although we're at home during the SEC Championship Game. Sigh.

Also of note:

* We go to Alaska twice, but we're not using any exemptions. Corbett staying true to we're not scheduling 38 any more.
* Only 12 games after New Year's -- which seems light to me. Part of that could be to make room for the extra week of WCHA playoffs.
* We'll have played 16 of our 34 before Thanksgiving with no breaks.
* For the first time since joining the WCHA, it looks like we'll have a couple of afternoon games (3 p.m. starts): Sunday, Dec. 4 vs. Ferris and Saturday, Feb. 11 vs. Bemidji. Not sure why -- the Havoc has a home schedule up (no opponents), but they're not home on Dec. 4 and they have a 2 p.m. start on Feb. 11.

I am willing to bet that it's a travel concession for both opponents, especially with the Sunday game for Ferris. I don't know if they'll be having finals on Monday the 5th.

Re: UAH Hockey 2015-16: The next step

Saulnier tweeted that Carmine will be back for his senior year (must have gotten clearance). Guess our goaltending situation is set for another year!

Re: UAH Hockey 2015-16: The next step

Nice!
It might not mean anything, but I was looking at the last couple of years, and in both 13/14 and 14/15, the largest margin of loss was 10, and the largest margin of victory was by 3 goals or so. In 15/16, it was 5 & 5. This is a good thing :-)
