UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

Re: UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

Why are we deviating from the WCHA standard start time of 7:37 for Friday nights? I have always appreciated the fact that the WCHA was smart enough to recognize that people need additional time for dinning/drinks after work on Friday evenings.
From the release:
note: start times will be released as soon as possible, with 7:07 pm and 7:37 pm remaining the norm for league games.

Re: UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

OK, I had only checked a few teams' schedules before making the comment, and they all had the 7:37 Friday night start times. Now, I see that there are many who do not. I still think a later start time for Fridays is smart.
From the UAH release:
All UAH home games will start at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Michigan Tech also typically plays all their home games at 7:07pm. It is not a standard rule or anything, just many teams choose to have Friday games start at 7:37pm. I hate how late they get done, especially in a town like Bemidji where it seems like every restaurant that isn't a chain stops serving food at 10pm which make food after the game nearly impossible on Friday.

Re: UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

Here's the UAH schedule in list form, based on the information in the release:

October 11-12 at Northeastern
October 25-26 vs. Bemidji State*
November 1-2 vs. Ferris State*
November 8-9 at Alaska-Anchorage*
November 15-16 vs. St. Cloud State
November 22-23 at Northern Michigan*
November 29-30 at Notre Dame Tournament (UAH, Northeastern, Notre Dame, Western Michigan)
December 6-7 at Bowling Green*
December 13-14 vs. Minnesota State*
December 27-28 at Wisconsin
January 3-4 vs. Bowling Green*
January 10-11 at Notre Dame
January 17-18 vs. Alaska-Anchorage*
Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at Alaska*
February 7-8 at Michigan Tech*
February 14-15 at Minnesota State*
February 21-22 vs. Lake Superior State*
Feb. 28-March 1 at Bemidji State*
March 7-8 vs. Northern Michigan*
March 14-16 WCHA first round playoffs (at campus sites)
March 20-22 WCHA championship semifinals and final (TBA)

If I read this right, we have THIRTY-EIGHT regular season games, which would be the most games played in school history even if we don't qualify for the playoffs (record is 37 in 2001-02). We're apparently taking full use of the Alaska exemption.

Re: UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

Thanks for doing that, Michael — I wasn't sure that it was all in the release, but I hadn't sat down to list it out, either. Yep, full advantage of the exemptions! That gets us in that Notre Dame tourney and probably the roadie at Wisco. I know those B1G teams need some non-conference games, and we'll always have at least eight to burn.

I'm so excited for next year. Great slate, and I feel like we're going to win some. Round into shape, get in the playoffs, hot goaltending ... who knows? We've done it twice already.

Oh, Caber.

To be fair, he wasn't the only one on live TV with harsh words (Matt Parker, who was interviewed right before him, and the WAAY announcers were also loud in their criticism). John just happened to be more memorable.

It's a tough situation.

Iwould like to wish Kyle a complete and speedy recovery. I have been ignoring hockey news while I sulk about RMU s playoffs demise so I just caught up with this
today. I had the pleasure of watching Kyle while playing for Oakville in the OJHL. The determination and work
ethic he displayed will stand him in good stead during
his recovery, the best of luck to him.

Hey, depending on how the rest of the postseason plays out, Robert Morris could make it as an at-large. Keep the faith. Thanks for the kind words.

On the ice, he's consistently the hardest worker on the UAH team. Don't mention RMU to a KY Wildcat fan. :(
