Uaa Vs Minnesota Jan 28-29

Re: Uaa Vs Minnesota Jan 28-29

There are no excuses. This is a systemic breakdown in all areas.

It is no secret that UAA fans don't like Hill, and there sure seems to be an issue with your coaching staff right now. Too many good assistants have left, some because they didn't get along with Johnny. The friendship between he and Lucia seems to be at the root of some serious problems, IMHO.

Good split. surprised rodents looked so good one night and terrible the 2nd. usually with that much team speed difference we get beaten both nights badly even playing 0-5 since they can still carry the puck with speed (skill) or do a nifty pass (skill) going into the zone.

I'm not sure rodents have enough skill (espeically agility) to get around the 0-5 defense, they looked pretty bad doing dump/chase. Anyways good luck rest of the way.

Re: Uaa Vs Minnesota Jan 28-29

Sorry you are incorrect. It has nothing to do with trash talk. In the decade plus I've interacted with Gopher fans I'd estimate that 90% of them would concur with the following common example ... "The Gophers should beat blah blah team ..."

Some folks around these parts tend to label that as "arrogance" on Gopher fan's part. Gopher fans protest and say that it isn't disrespectful. I tend to think both of them are wrong. It isn't arrogance so much as ignorance and provinciality. If there is one base of fans in the WCHA that purposefully doesn't want to know anything about other teams ... it's the Gophers fan base.

Why don't they have the same curiosity about their opponents as other fans? Because Gopher fans don't think other teams are to be learned about or understood ... they are to be disregarded. It's the same reason that NHL scouts in Minnesota consistently over-rank the prospects they watch. Minnesota matters to Minnesotans. Nothing else. The Coen brothers know what I'm talking about. And your reply to this will almost certainly confirm it.

Sorry, but this is just plain dumb logic. And you're basing your sweeping generalizations on what? Your authoritative, well researched and unbiased "estimate"? Have you ever heard of logical fallacies such as "Begging the Question" and "Subjectivism"?

Re: Uaa Vs Minnesota Jan 28-29

Regarding the games - I still have not gone back and watched the DVR of Friday yet, on Saturday the Seawolves played the most all-out defensive style I've ever seen and when it was still tied! The Wolves would, as soon as the Gophers gained control in the Gopher end, send one very token forecheck and all drop back. The five man picket line on the blue line was impressive. Now I used to share season tickets for the Wild while Lemaire was here and I've never seen a team take as thorough a defensive stance as that in a game that was still 0-0. And it wasn't as if they had much in the way of a counter attack either. When Comley was at NMU, they used to trap all night but they lived for neutral zone turnovers and had a few players who could jump on those turnovers and counter. I saw none of that from UAA. The Gophs had some chances, but could not finish - once again. Also, Kamal played out of his mind. He has a normal game and it ends 2-1 or 3-1 Gophs. None of that excuses the long periods of sloppy and uncommitted play by the Gophs. As someone else said, they have no one willing to pay the price of taking, or making, the hit to generate the open play. Maybe if Budish was healthy it'd be different, he is willing to hit and be hit and he generates chances from that.

Re: Uaa Vs Minnesota Jan 28-29

Not to take anything away from UAA, but the difference in the two nights was the jump in the Gopher's skates, as has been the problem all year, and which it is now probably too late to recover from. Yes, UAA played a much better game on Saturday, which created more problems for MN in many cases. Often times, MN would fall into their game and slow down to look for a pass or play, which usually resulted in a turn-over since UAA was in position. However, at the beginning of the 2nd period, MN came out flying and they were the ones creating problems for the UAA players. When they played in fifth gear, they got to most of the pucks and UAA was trying to catch up. In fact, I would argue that part of UAA's problem on Friday wasn't just attitude, but because MN was moving so fast, playing their game, that UAA couldn't even get set up. And as for goaltending being the issue Saturday, Kamal made some pretty good saves at times, but how many times were Gophers in scoring position and either wiffed completely or just didn't get much on the shot? When that happens a number of times, it often means the players aren't pushing hard enough. While I agree UAA is improved and can play a very disciplined game, MN still has more talent. But talent doesn't win as much as will. And once again, MN didn't show enough will in a "must-win" game for them.

They did make the record books as the first Gopher squad shut out by UAA at home.
