Not to take anything away from UAA, but the difference in the two nights was the jump in the Gopher's skates, as has been the problem all year, and which it is now probably too late to recover from. Yes, UAA played a much better game on Saturday, which created more problems for MN in many cases. Often times, MN would fall into their game and slow down to look for a pass or play, which usually resulted in a turn-over since UAA was in position. However, at the beginning of the 2nd period, MN came out flying and they were the ones creating problems for the UAA players. When they played in fifth gear, they got to most of the pucks and UAA was trying to catch up. In fact, I would argue that part of UAA's problem on Friday wasn't just attitude, but because MN was moving so fast, playing their game, that UAA couldn't even get set up. And as for goaltending being the issue Saturday, Kamal made some pretty good saves at times, but how many times were Gophers in scoring position and either wiffed completely or just didn't get much on the shot? When that happens a number of times, it often means the players aren't pushing hard enough. While I agree UAA is improved and can play a very disciplined game, MN still has more talent. But talent doesn't win as much as will. And once again, MN didn't show enough will in a "must-win" game for them.
