Sorry you are incorrect. It has nothing to do with trash talk. In the decade plus I've interacted with Gopher fans I'd estimate that 90% of them would concur with the following common example ... "The Gophers should beat blah blah team ..."
Some folks around these parts tend to label that as "arrogance" on Gopher fan's part. Gopher fans protest and say that it isn't disrespectful. I tend to think both of them are wrong. It isn't arrogance so much as ignorance and provinciality. If there is one base of fans in the WCHA that purposefully doesn't want to know anything about other teams ... it's the Gophers fan base.
Why don't they have the same curiosity about their opponents as other fans? Because Gopher fans don't think other teams are to be learned about or understood ... they are to be disregarded. It's the same reason that NHL scouts in Minnesota consistently over-rank the prospects they watch. Minnesota matters to Minnesotans. Nothing else. The Coen brothers know what I'm talking about. And your reply to this will almost certainly confirm it.
This is so false, I don't even know where to start. Do not misunderstand trash talk with other sister schools as not acknowleding other teams.
