Uaa Vs Minnesota Jan 28-29

Re: Uaa Vs Minnesota Jan 28-29

This is so false, I don't even know where to start. Do not misunderstand trash talk with other sister schools as not acknowleding other teams.

Sorry you are incorrect. It has nothing to do with trash talk. In the decade plus I've interacted with Gopher fans I'd estimate that 90% of them would concur with the following common example ... "The Gophers should beat blah blah team ..."

Some folks around these parts tend to label that as "arrogance" on Gopher fan's part. Gopher fans protest and say that it isn't disrespectful. I tend to think both of them are wrong. It isn't arrogance so much as ignorance and provinciality. If there is one base of fans in the WCHA that purposefully doesn't want to know anything about other teams ... it's the Gophers fan base.

Why don't they have the same curiosity about their opponents as other fans? Because Gopher fans don't think other teams are to be learned about or understood ... they are to be disregarded. It's the same reason that NHL scouts in Minnesota consistently over-rank the prospects they watch. Minnesota matters to Minnesotans. Nothing else. The Coen brothers know what I'm talking about. And your reply to this will almost certainly confirm it.

Gophers have 10 freshmen don't they? or is it 11 with the new goalie? They still have a lot to learn and to be in the top six in the WCHA in a rebuilding year is good. Maybe if the freshmen stick around for awhile then the coaches could get more out of the players.

They have 11 freshmen and 3 sophmores. UAA has 10 freshmen and 9 sophmores.

Re: Uaa Vs Minnesota Jan 28-29

UAA played their system to a "t" and deserved the win. The Gophers proved again why I have a hard time caring anymore if they win or lose. It has a been a difficult season watching this group of players and I hope it changes. I doubt it but something needs to change.

Re: Uaa Vs Minnesota Jan 28-29

I don't think the Gophers played that well. They had periods of good pressure, yes. However, every time I turned around there was a missed pass or they were offsides. No flow whatsoever. Yes, I realize that UAA's game is to do just that. But, with the resources available to this program and the talent that is supposedly there, to not get a single goal was weak.

Back on task here... another Jekyll & Hyde weekend for the Gophers? I think they'll protect the house on Friday and wet the bed with overconfidence on Saturday. Seawolves should be plenty rested and used to the time change by now, but Gophers have superior talent.

This weekend Hyde beats UAA with Jekyll's heavy cane both Fri. and Sat. Gophers sweep.

I'm not often right, but it's a broken record with this team...

Wow, you're a friggin' idiot. We know about other teams, we know about other storied programs. We are either arrogant enough to dismiss them, or learned enough to dismiss their optimism about thier standing in college hockey history.

MN should beat UAA 90% of the time, hands down, in this case. Hell, they should beat anyone not name WI or UND 90% of the time, best case scenario. I know that's not true, but it's not due to lack of knowledge. That's arrogance. If you want to include knowledge, then I'd add tUMD, Denver, and maybe, maybe SCSU (thanks to a former coach taking over the program :D).

I was wondering when you'd be posting your comeback.;) Yeah, as a diehard (accentuate the "DIE" in this case) fan you hope for the best, but tonight's loss put a lock on the bipolar stereotype for me. The seniors have not stepped up with consistency this season and that's been the heart and soul of their demise. Unfortunately, the loss tonight has serious NCAA playoff ramifications and it's just pathetic to potentially have to experience a 3 year NCAA playoff drought with all this talent. Crap!

Re: Uaa Vs Minnesota Jan 28-29

The failure of large numbers of Gopher fans to recognize and acknowledge that there are other hockey teams in D1 and even that some of them are good enough to beat their team on any given night provides a wealth of entertainment to non-Gopher fans.
This was true - in 2007 and years prior to that.

Aside from a very small number of idiots (who are either stupid or are just the run of the mill trolls), I don't see how you can make this case in the present time. The team simply has been too mediocre over the past 3 1/2 seasons for anyone with half an ounce of gray matter to claim they're superior to anybody (other than Tech).

Re: Uaa Vs Minnesota Jan 28-29

In terms of making the NCAAs there is little doubt the sky fell tonight for the Gophers...they're done.

And this is all that matters. And this is why I was vocal in the Fall while everyone else was screaming, "there's still time".

Now here's a guy who knows what he's talking about. I bet he didn't vote for Sarah Palin. But he might be able to see Russia from his house.

I'm obviously not a gopher fan, but all of my hockey fan friends are so I watch, attend, and travel each year to a ton of gopher games. I contend these issues started when Hill came on board. Lucia and Hill do not compliment each other as coaches, and all of Lucia's good assistants have either been fired or have left. The issues aren't rooted in lack of talent or early defections, it's in the culture conveyed from the top down. I don't believe they'll find consistent success until Lucia is gone or he swallows his pride and finds stronger assistant coaches.

Wow, congrats on the weak generalizations, the teachings on the NHL draft, and movies.

I'd argue Minnesota fans actually are more curious about opponents as hockey is such a part of all of our cultures.

I've never met a UAA fan in person, only on this board. I won't make any silly generalizations, but you certainly are the arrogant type aren't ya?

3 years in a row should not be tolerated. I understand that college hockey has become more competitive and that we will not make the NCAA's on a yearly basis, we are looking at possibly having a class not make one tournament in their careers at the U. Lucia either needs to go or needs to be told changes are to be made in the staff. I still contend he needs to go. Talk to Blais, talk to our other assistants who left, talk to the guy at Shattuck (who's name escapes me right now.) The country club environment needs to end as well. We may never see another tournament run like 85-97, but 3 or even 4 years without making a tournament is a total failure with the resources and talent this program has.
