Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Been there, have you been to Anchorage? Have traveled over 125,000 miles going to WCHA games. And you?

Since you asked, I've been to 41 D-1 rinks, and 6 other buildings that have hosted NCAA hockey events. That includes Sullivan, which I thought was an enjoyable place to watch a game when I worked a tournament there in 2000.

Your move.

An answer to one of your earlier questions:Yes a Starbucks kind of draws a line between a hick backwater which can not support one and
a more dynamic city which can.
And a couple of questions which the answers to are probably irrelevant.
What is your relevance to this thread?
Or are you just bored and trolling?
But I'd like to buy you a couple of beers the next time you're in town. Yes a town not a full fledged cosmopolitan N.Y./L.A. kinda place.
You count rinks as a trophy? What's your life count on birds?
To me both are nonsensical. I go to watch hockey at rinks and just enjoy seeing birds. No idea what my count on either is.

Alaska Hockey, do you count the old sheets on the park strip in your numbers?
Or the neighborhood ones like the one Tim couldn't give away over at Steller Designs?
And you spend entirely too much time on airplanes.
I'd rather drive to the Carlson than go through that airport fiasco.
Just random thoughts from a random mind.
See you at Coach's Corner.

If I ever go back to Houghton I will have a Starbuck's. ........... First time for everthing.............. now maybe work on them to also serve beer like the Sully.

But Alaska Hockey counts mileage. Apparently the numbers are OK if they're your numbers.

I'd love to take you up on Seawolf Fan's idea for that beer sometime. Maybe the next time you're adding to your frequent flyer total and I'm chalking off another rink we can do that.

No If I did tally all the barns I have been to either as a fan, staff, or a player, I could double rinks and miles. First Class and TSA pre check makes it a smoother trip. and driving to the Carlson is like driving deeper and deeper into a **** hole you don't even want to be seen in.
See you at the Coach's Corner first beer on me.

OK big shot 1st class. Don't choke on the olive in your martini.

It looks like all y'all can effectively urinate at similar distances.

Good luck against Tech, for you will need it!

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

UAA has another ticket deal posted on Facebook:

Military personnel with a valid ID can purchase a $5 ticket to all remaining ‪#‎SeawolfHockey‬ games. Tickets can be purchased at ITT in the Arctic Oasis Activities Center or at the Sullivan Arena box office.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Coach's Corner radio program this evening was once again an informative and lively time.
Host Kurt Haider on radio 650 AM from 6 to 7 pm put on another program giving us the "inside view" of UAA Seawolve Hockey.
Musician/Hockey player Austin Sevalrud was the guest player and put forth an entertaining segment.
Coach Thomas as always gave us an insight into what's going on with the team.
it should be a another great weekend of Seawolf hockey.
It's a great day to be a Seawolf!

Here's the longform update: UAA is somewhere between pile of * and dumpster fire. They got out shot 18-2 in the first period. You wanna know why they're losing games? They get out shot 18 to *ing 2! Had to pull Mantha because he faced a full game's workload in 25+ minutes! They can't shoot, they can't pass, and they can't even hold on to the puck! The biggest thing is the lack of effort. They get behind and shut down and give up 2-3 more goals.

The biggest issue? No leadership. Cameron and Allen, the two guys who should be leading, are the first two to shut down. Scratch Cameron and Allen tomorrow and put Conti up there, at least he *ing tried.

I don't even know why I go to games anymore this season. I guess somewhere in me is a masochist...

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

That was embarrassing. This is the worst UAA team I've ever seen, and yes this includes the Talafous era and Hill's one win season. I don't care where Tech is ranked, you don't lose 10-0. Quitters and losers lose 10-0, and that's what this team is right now: a bunch of quitters and losers.

I wanted to do this at the end of the season but now seems like a good time. It's now time to have The Talk:

5 years ago Tech and UAA were about the same. The difference now? Tech put money into their program and UAA didn't. So what do we do?

1. We have to take a look at how UAA's program compares to everyone else in the WCHA. Everything, arena, locker rooms, practice facility, training facility, coaching staffs, equipment quality, budgets, administrative support, marketing etc. All of it.

2. After #1, we look at how much it will cost to put us in the top 4 of the league.

3. We figure out the cost for #2 and look to see if we can afford it. And this means everybody, athletic department, University Administration, boosters, sponsors, alumni, getting together and asking it: "can we, collectively, afford it?"

4. If the answer to #3 is "No." We shut the program down.

The time do to this is now. Drastic budget cuts are coming and either we do this now or people are gonna look at dwindling attendance, dwindling revenue, poor performance and go "why are we paying for this?" Either we bring the program up to a level where we can win or we don't have one at all. Because it isn't worth it to support a losing program, and that's what we have.

Well said

That's where we were, too, and we're coming back. I know that the precipitous decline is there, but if I'm right, your best players are underclassmen, right?

That certainly appears to be the case. Hopefully none of them leave in the off season.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

I totally believe you will be noticeably better next year. The Coach is solid, you have committed fans and alumni, you have some good recruits coming. You just have to keep working to be a little better every day and pretty soon you are respectable.I know how hard it is believe me, but hang in there. There's so much parity that it doesn't take much to go from losing every game to winning every game.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Everybody keeps talking about the underclassmen but I don't see it. If they had talent at least a portion of it would've shown itself already. The gap in talent and speed last night was wide enough to fit the Titanic in. That's extremely worrying.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

I actually do see it getting better next season. Our freshmen and sophmores are coming along nicely. To be blunt, our seniors just aren't leading or getting the job done this season. I think next years seniors will have more of a will to win. Heck, coach said our best players are our freshmen, what does that say about the juniors and seniors?
Perhaps more importantly ... what does that say TO your juniors and seniors?

We have solid netminders and we have talent coming in next season.
I'm not seeing numbers from next year's recruits that would lead me to use the word talent. I can't imagine that next year would be worse than this year but there's no "blue chippahs" yet in the future from Thomas & staff.
