UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

So, I proposed the idea of maybe raising the roof at the UAA ice rink, knocking out the walls on the North and East sides and reconfigure the South and west side of the rink to make a 4,000 seat lower bowl with chairback seats. I was told it was a good idea and would be looked into! So, what do you all think of that?

Also, I really think UAA should start fresh and rename ourselves to Alaska State University. I know most U's in the lower 48 "state U" are the agricultural land grant schools, but UAF seems to have that locked up. As ASU, we would be distinguished from the school up north and have a fresh start.

Something needs to happen with our hockey program. I agree with JJ, now is the time for evaluation. Are we all in or NOT????

I think probably 90% of us would be in favor converting the Sports Center into something. 5 years ago we wouldn't have been able to do something like that, old WCHA wouldn't have liked that. But now, it seems perfectly reasonable.

JJ, I do too. I think if they can refigure that thing to be a nice "lower bowl" type arena with at least 4,000 chairback seats, it would be such a cozy arena. The parking garage is already being built next to the old engineering building and parking in-and-around campus plus the AK-Airlines center should be good. With the new locker room being built on-campus, and the new rink ice-plant, I am wondering if we could just do that.

If you look at the Goggin Ice Center at Miami Ohio, that is what I would love to see at the WFSC! A TRUE on-campus Ice Arena!!!!!

It's clear that UAA hockey needs an on campus arena, and I love the idea of converting the Farg into one. I have discussed this with several fans, and they all think it is a great idea. Unfortunately, right now there is no money for this. Maybe in the future. I think even a 3000 seat arena would be good. What does the Ferris St arena hold, 2000?

ferris state 14560 students, 3300 dorm rooms, aprox 2000 fans at a game, 2490 seats in a on campus rink

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Some sort of snafu made Kurt resort to broadcast over his cell phone.
How he came up with that only he and techy folks know.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

I just want to know what happened from last year to this one.

GFM

It isn't just the absence of Bailey. Last season the Allen, Bailey, Kwas line was something special. Allen had 17 goals last season! This season he has 8. It's fair to say that none of the lines he has been on have "clicked".

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

I just saw pictures of the new seats that will be put in the Sully in the off season. They look dark green and light grey to me. I guess they are in the arena for fans to see, so maybe we will get to see them this weekend. One of the versions is padded, the other doesn't look padded to me.

I think the new seat colors are going to look FANTASTIC at the Sully. I can't wait until they install them. I wonder if it is possible that they can re-use the Sully orange and yellow seats at another Alaska Venue? Maybe put the yellow seats in Mezzanine section at the Carlson Center?

Maybe post that over on the Sports Hate thread?

Ugly color but the price is right, so it works for me. Lord knows any Sully seat is almost like brand new. I hope you guys enjoy your new "laundry bag grey" seats.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Suze, what do you know about this additional cut of $60,000,000 Squarebanks is talking about?
I haven't read that anywhere in the papers or online.
Although I swallowed it hook, line and sinker I'm hoping it's one of those stupid _airbanks things.
