Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

more hand holding

call UAA athletics and ask
who can you connect me to to ask about the tours to the AAC
what days are they held?
Ask mom if you can go.
Get name on list and show up early.
I'd call, however I don't have their number.
Could you look it up for me?

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Wow Florida, you need to chill out. Anything that is new at UAA is exciting! And if you dont think we wont become D-1 in all sports, you need to take your head out your ( you know what!) I say it is a great day to be a SEAWOLF!

This is a HOCKEY forum Wolfman. Kinda hard for us to get excited about anything having to do with the furtherment of every sport at UAA other than Seawolf hockey!! Hockey was given the cold shoulder, plain and simple.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Suze,

First of all, I was not the one that brought this "exciting news" up!!! Second of all, if you don't think that the new AAC will generate revenue for the HOCKEY program too, then you need to re-evaluate it again! Plain and simple. You even said it yourself, Hackett is intending for the AAC to benefit the HOCKEY program too in the use of the facility for training. So, this IS HOCKEY related. Do not get mad at me. There are some of us who like ALL of UAA sports and want to see ALL the sports to include HOCKEY grow! This is a HOCKEY board, but elements of the new features benefit hockey!!!!!

Suze you and Wolfman are looking at UAA thru a "road cone" He’s looking thru the little end and you are looking thru the big end. Yes Hockey has got the "cold shoulder" due to title 9 and the other sports "playing catch up" with faculties. The other sports in August will be “ahead of Hockey” and the AD can focus more on Hockey but…… Mr. Hackett has to deal with all sports not just be loyal to one and forget the rest. The Training facilities at the new ACC will benefit “all sports teams” as well as all students. So it’s not in the same building, the team makes many trips to other facilities to train as well as the military base and flattop mountain. Not trying to water down anybodies Wheaties bowl. You focus mostly to hockey which is fine, but Wolfman is looking at the Big Picture of All sports. Going D-1 in all sports is the Goal of UAA. I am a big UAA Hockey fan but I also go to basketball, volleyball and even went to my first Gymnastics Meet this year. It was fun to watch even for a first time fan with no clue in how they scored the meet.

Alaska hockey you are EXACTLY correct! I am a DIE HARD UAA hockey fan, but also a DIE HARD UAA FAN! The whole reason for a HUGE venue was to go (future) D-1 in all sports. It might not be with next 5 years but certainly sooner rather than later. I want a hockey venue on campus! As a mater of fact I wish for a 7,500 seat hockey arena on campus, but I am afraid it will prob be only 3000 seats.

I love suze and everyone who loves UAA. I am friends with lots of them, and I dont want anyone not to like me. I want our hockey team to flourish and I am so happy with our new couch! We have much success this year and I am looking for (and cant wait till) next season!

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Suze, when I was on the UAA Alumni Board of Directors, this is the same UA prez who said UAA would Never get PhD programs!!! Guess what! He approved UAA to move to doctoral granting university! UAA now is doctoral granting. So not sure who can listen to people!

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

According to whom? Because I have had several discussions about this, and this is not what I have heard. In fact, I've been told that the UA president does not want it.
You should call ol' Patsy up and ask him point blank. I will not waste my time with him.

Johnson had average numbers in his two regular seasons ... scored 3g-2a though in 12 playoff games this year. He's an 18 year old blueliner @ 6'1"185 ... 2015-2016 player for uaa.

I don't see a lot of anything about Mitchell that makes me think he's anything special ... He's 19 ... 6'2" 188lbs ... been a .5 ppg player in his two seasons in the B but played in only 82 games in that two years (injuries maybe ... I see he had a concussion this season).

Everytime I go to the BCHL pages I see more than a few players that I hope UAA is going after. For example .. where is this kid going? Why not UAA? http://www.bchl.ca/leagues/rosters_profile.cfm?clientID=1413&leagueID=2393&teamID=378211&playerID=821896

or this kid ...

http://www.bchl.ca/leagues/rosters_profile.cfm?clientID=1413&leagueID=2393&teamID=378211&playerID=1070081

He's probably looking at Minnesota schools but these are the sorts of guys that UAA needs to be getting.

Johnson and Mitchell I hope are 15-16 recruits, if that's the case they could put up the numbers like the kids you listed. There play leaves a lot to be desired, but maybee that's what coach wants, some hard working kids you don't get that much playing time until their junior/senior year. A good current example would be Andrew Pettit, I can't tell you how many times he was in the right position at the right time during the second half of the season, it was uncanny.

Pettitt scored well in the B ... like 35 goals if i remember right. But in any case, yes you need role players and character guys and of course I have no real idea what they look like on the ice. I just always hope to see some sweet scouting report or even some hometown rag singing their praises when I see a new recruit. Hopefully, there's some intangible attributes that Thomas/Staff saw to make them the offer.

For next season I know I'll be looking forward to Kozun and Weidauer as potential "impact" players down the line.

Here's an audio interview with Tad Kozun ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zv7YOInGi58

Also give this a look .. Steve Thompson talking about Juniors and getting a schollie etc ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9oNesAunCs

And here's a "fun" video that involves Christian Weidauer ... he got in a tussle with another kid who ended up punching the linesman ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOeGBIA6JCM#t=60

Here's an interview with Weidauer from when he played in Ontario ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bV4_RMVUyFQ

Also if you didn't know (I didn't cos I don't check this stuff anymore) Weidauer was a 2nd team league All-Star this season.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

The way I hear it, so may not be entirely accurate:
Matt will be the entire 30 minutes on Charley's show tomorrow night.
It's a new day and a great day to be a Seawolf!

That's what it looks like. I hope that's not the "big news" that Alaska Hockey was talking about.

I'm still interested in knowing where you heard this, because nobody I have talked to (who should know) say DI for all sports is in UAA's future plans.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Great interview of coach Thomas on The Show a few minutes ago. I really liked the discussion about UAA beating UA_ in the playoffs. Thomas said that when the Nanooks won the Gov Cup in the shootout (which he thinks is a really dumb way to determine the winner), they played "We are the champions" at the Carlson Center. He came pretty close to saying how classless that was. That really ticked him off and gave him and the team the determination to knock them out of the playoffs on their home ice. So yeah, thanks to whoever decided to play that song! ;)

Great news, the money from the State for upgrades at the Sullivan has been suspended.
