Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Wolfman, it's a done deal that we are staying in the Farg and that the Farg is going to be renovated.
Yes the Chancellor and AD are aware of the renovations and the need for updated and upgraded facilities.
The guy in charge of the Farg is telling them what we have is fine. No need for spending any money.
What I'm trying to get across is we, as a group, need to let them know this is NOT acceptable.
We as a group need to make our wishes known.
This will be a one time deal and we should not let the opportunity to have a first class facility slip by.
I'm asking everyone to contact the powers that be...BOR, President, Chancellor, AD..
Please don't be complacent and let some out of touch schmuck screw us out of this chance to upgrade Seawolf hockey.
It's a new day and a great day to be a Seawolf!

I agree with this...100%

Hasn't the 10 million already been approved for the renovations at the Farg? In looking at the illustrations, it sure looks like a major overhaul for hockey.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Suze, that BOR agenda about the Farg is two months ago and has already passed. Has nothing to do with the announcement this week. The announcement is the new restaurant/pub being constructed at the AAC. I have many friends who can't wait to buy season tickets to the basketball games at the new AAC. That place is awesome! The seats have been installed and they are all green!!!! I just love it! WAY BETTER THAN THE WFSC for basketball. That gym is just a rec gym, should have never been a performance arena. Now, we need a new hockey arena that seats 7,500 in my opinion for success growth. Then on campus soccer/football stadium. It is a great day to be a SEAWOLF!!!!!

I am aware of that, but the new agenda for April 3 says nothing about HOCKEY. The December BOR does, that is why I posted that information. Still waiting to see what the great and exciting news is that Alaska Hockey and Seawolf Fan seem to know so much about.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

If we want top notch talent to commit to Seawolve Hockey we need the training facilities completely gutted, the area greatly enlarged, the antiquated equipment removed and new state of the art equipment installed.
The guy in charge of the Farg is outdated, out of touch and a detriment to our program. He says the cramped, outdated and inadequate training area is sufficient. That said he is still in charge and has a large say in renovations.
We need to get behind our Seawolfs' NOW and push to have a state of the art training facility installed in the Farg.
Everyone, that means you, should be contacting the Board of Regents, President Pat Gamble ua.president@alaska.edu, Chancellor Tom Case chancellor@uaa.alaska.edu and Athletic Director Keith Hackett khackett@uaa.alaska.edu letting them know our hockey program not only deserves but demands training facilities commensurate with their expectations of excellence on the ice.
It's a new day and a great day to be a Seawolf!

Keith Hackett should already know this and so should Chancellor. I think before we get any more arena's though, UAF will want a share of new athletic facilities. Just my opinion.

Suze, you're absolutely correct on the money is already approved.
It's how the money is to be spent that is at issue.
The guy running the Farg is against what we need for a training facility.
Coach is arguing for improved training facilities and the guy is resisting.
I'm saying let's get behind Coach and get what we need.

When you read the information posted about the new AAC, it mentions the hockey team as being one of the sports that will be using the facility. Hackett told me they would use the training facilities there, but that doesn't make any sense.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

OK guys, it is the new restaurant/pub at UAA AAC. Exciting because it is a revenue generating project that will help other sports too! Also, it will help fund new sports like swimming and soccer!

I am still trying to track down this rumer http://www.bigskyfans.com/bengals/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=5608&sid=c29f47b3dfb862c89aa390e5588f281e but have no luck!

This rumor is more exciting to me!!!!
The "Big Picture" is for UAA to go D-1 in all sports.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Correct, but nobody will believe me :-(. Its ok tho, at least I know. I think something behind the scenes is happening regarding big sky conference...
I believe you and I like the move that new arena wasn't built to just to bitach slap _airbanks.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Seawolf Fan, I mention tennis for 2 reasons.
1. Relative low number of athletes to comprise the teams.
2. Could compete at the D-1 level immediately.
I don't really care about what mayor dipstick did in the past.
Ladies and gents, nothing regarding facilities is going to change in some miraculous fashion in our near future.
What needs to happen in the near future is a major reno project at the dear old Sully, we way too cheap to pay for that with Muni/ State money. That needs to come from corporate sponsorship from some DEEP pockets...our friends at big oil. Hey Exxon is developing Point Thompson finally. Why don't we start there? Throw some guilt down on them.
And what's all this conference re-alignment chatter? Anyone think in their right minds Mankato and Bemidji want to go be door mats in the Nacho...leave that to CC, LMAO, irony ain't it?
They got the most AK kids. Love it.

The new AAC will have 2 work out areas with 5,000 sq ft total.
Everybody should sign up for a tour, so they see what is in the new building and all the workout areas.

I really see nothing exciting about this at all.. You are not selling out the AAC with the basketball and gymnastics team playing on the same day at the same time.. With free food..

'Many friends' huh? More than 1, less than 50?

A fricken restaurant gets you riled up like this??

Frankly, you made more out of this than needed to be.

"edit" And frankly, there is no way we go D1 in all sports... A soccer team and football team will not happen. Even if that is the case, the state gets them new digs before hockey?

We'll all be dead before this happens..

Wow Florida, you need to chill out. Anything that is new at UAA is exciting! And if you dont think we wont become D-1 in all sports, you need to take your head out your ( you know what!) I say it is a great day to be a SEAWOLF!

You are correct, anything, sportwise, is great news, a 'pub' in an arena, ehhh, (you get more than 2500(average)documented seats filled for a season) for any sports hosted at the new AAC, I'll buy you a beer. And I'll stand corrected.

Granted, I'm bitter about the no ice..

I do agree though, It's a great day to be Seawolf!

I could see a soccer team (or teams). Wouldn't take much beyond some facilities at The Dome or on campus. Plus the soccer community would support it.

I know, i hate we have no ice too! But lets see what Hacket has for us in his bag of tricks. He just might pull off a new ice arena in our lifetime! Maybe there is a means to and end!
