Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Nate the Great was a stellar goal tender when he played here.
That said:
He was also a very divisive influence on the team.
Because he was an above average player he had a lot of influence on underclassmen who followed him and for them he was a negative influence.
Overall our program would have been better off without him.

Very true. After his freshman year he thought he was too good for UAA and that's why his freshman year was his best. He never wanted to be here. I want players at UAA who want to play for the home team.

He's a nutty goalie. All goalies are nutty in some way. As for him being negative influence, with the benefit of hindsight, I'm more tempted to put some blame on Shyiak. It's obvious now he didn't have much control of players.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

It doesn't matter what happens.
He got jobbed for 2013/2014 WCHA Coach of the Year.
Matt Thomas said when he was hired that he "had never had a losing season and I don't intend to start now".
Those were some pretty big words to spout considering the team he was taking over.
The team was 4 and 27 ???? the year before with no player turnover and a freshman class that wasn't his.
The team had never accomplished that goal since joining the WCHA.
He did it!!!!!
Congratulations Coach !!!!!

Edit:
I doubted he could do it.

Very true, but this was in the nWCHA. Thomas has done wonders already and I believe in him, but I would bee even more impressed if this was in the oWCHA.

That's true, but the nWCHA is much more competitive than people thought they would be. It's a very strong league, in my opinion. Plus, look at the non league games UAA won, and the ranked teams they beat. Impressive.

True, I don't want to take too much away from Thomas but I want to remain level headed. Tonight is going to bee intense!!!!!!!

And thanks to the hockey alumni who insisted on refining the head coach search. I bet Thomas has earned a few bonus's in his paycheck!

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Ok so here's the info: UAA plays Ferris State at 3:07 pm ADT on Friday at the Final Five. The WCHA says it will be on TV on Fox Sports North, possibly on Fox College Sports, and will have to see if it'll be on GCI. Worse comes to worse it'll likely be on at Crossbar.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Dispatching your rival on their ice from the 6th seed is a very nice bit of work. But win two more games and not only will you get the Broadmoor Trophy you'll earn a trip to the NCAAs.

I suppose that may be slightly getting ahead of ourselves but it's a goal that's right in front of their faces.

Be playing hockey dear Seawolves while 44 other teams are on the golf course!

How about a National Championship match-up versus Quinnipiac? Start and end the season with the same opponent!!!

Borrowing from another winner:
Why not me?
Why not the Seawolves?

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Hopefully not at our expense!
They already snuck up on us once.
That's enough being nice to those guys.
Let things get better for them to someone else's detriment.

Be nice. I remember how it felt to be in their shoes.

Remember?????
It was 20 some years of that and as recent as last season.
Even with my addled mind I "remember".
Meant nothing not nice......wish them all the luck in the world.
May the hockey gods shine on them.
Just not at the Seawolves expense.

Agreed! Let's hope this season is the first of many better years for UAA.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

I'm in favor of UAH getting success at the expense of UAF, maybe Northern Michigan...
