UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Oddly enough UAA has a miniscule chance at a split of the MacNaughton. Just have to win the last four games here and hope Ferris and Kato lose out. So, you know, we got a chance! :D

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

In 2014 the Seawolves are now 7-3-2 (making them "the hottest team on the circuit ... not Fairbanks as Doyle Woody incorrectly asserts in his most recent re-crap ... UA_ is 7-4-1 in 2014) ...

The leadership group on this team knows exactly what it's like to make a run at the end of the season ... they were all there in the 10-11 season when the team went 5-1 over the last six including ending the Gophers season at the Mariucci with a sweep. The preparation, mindset and work effort it took 3 years ago is something they can all share with the rest of the team. That experience can't be underestimated in my view for it's value to the underclassmen.

4 points out the next 8 will take care of business and get home ice (maybe in 3rd place).

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Just noticed this on the Alaska State Hockey Association web site:

http://www.asha.pointstreaksites.com/view/asha

We as a Board voiced our strong support for the re-birth of UAA Hockey, and showed tremendous courage to take a stand for change within the UAA program. Great and positive changes have occurred this season within the UAA Hockey program, and it has been an exciting a competitive time for the team and our new Coach Matt Thomas, all under the supportive stewardship of Keith Hackett, UAA’s new AD.

This weekend (2/14 and 2/15) marks the last home game series for our UAA Boys, and I am asking ALL our local board members to push the word out to all of your teams, parents and players within your organizations to come out this weekend and show our support for UAA Hockey. We can make a difference in the continued growth and success of this vital program, but we as an organization need to do more than just saying we support the only D1 sport in town, but we all need to showing up. I ask that you all continue in your leadership by getting the word out that we, the Alaska Affiliate of USA Hockey, support UAA Hockey and help fill the seats. See you all at the rink!!

Yours in Hockey

Darryl Thompson

ASHA President

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

Yes. The seats will be replaced when the other upgrades are done in the summer of 2015.

Will they do anything about the ice surface? Bad pipe, gaps between the boards and ice? Your guys deserve better...and safer!

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

First ……about time …. Memo should have been written way before October instead of 5 days before the last series in February.
I saw one team in sweaters in the sw corner and thought I saw the leader of 5,000 in the se corner.

Memo was written because I sent Darryl an email asking him to do it. I should have done it much sooner, but didn't think about it, and it should not have taken prodding from a booster to see this. Still, I give him credit for it, and I look for more of their support should we get home ice ... and if not then for next season.

I wasn't aware of any gaps between the boards and the ice, but to answer your question, yes. The floor and ice system will be replaced as well as new lower bowl seating, new sound system, new boards and NHL quality seamless glass.

I'm hoping you know something I don't about getting NHL quality seamless glass.
New glass yes.
Getting glass the quality you speak of would be a blessing but I'm not holding my breath.
Make my day by telling me what I don't know about the new glass.
And I obviously don't know anything other than "they" said we'd get new glass.

Ok, here's what I know. Terry Parks of the Aces and AD Keith Hackett wrote a letter to the Assembly asking for certain upgrades, and I have a copy of that letter on my computer. They requested replacing the refrigeration system, a new concrete ice rink floor, new dasher boards, "no seam NHL glass", and replacing the retractable seats in the lower bowl. Now to be totally honest, the Project 80's Summary Worksheet that I received from an Assembly member did not specifically say NHL glass, but it does say the glass will be replaced. All of the other requests are being honored, so I assume the glass will be what UAA and the Aces asked for. If you really want to know beyond a shadow of a doubt, call John Rodda who is the director of Parks & Rec. He is in charge of the work, and he is very personable.

With the new jumbo scoreboard the Aces purchased, it should look so much better at the Sully.

Thank You for doing his job for him. Did you write the letter and he just signed it?

Well dont hold your breath on a response from John. I still have NOT received any response from him and it has been two months!!!

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

I simply asked if there was a leading color for lower bowl seating. No response.

Re: UAA: Exciting Things Ahead!

I talked to someone at the game tonight who works for SMG, and the Aces absolutely did buy that scoreboard! It will be installed this summer and the scoreboard we now have will be used at Ben Boeke.

Flippin' sweet! Finally the Aces upgrade something, have they ever done something to improve the Sully before?

He didn't answer my email either so I called him. He said feel free to call any time about the Sully renovations.

I also want something done to the concrete walls, at the very least it should get painted. I'm tired of looking at grey concrete. A nice wood siding, or something to spruce up the walls would be nice. This should be near last on the things the Sully needs, but I really want this to be acknowledged.
