UAA @ Bemidji State: Get out of the gutter battle.

Re: UAA @ Bemidji State: Get out of the gutter battle.

Liberals are so tolerant and loving, unlike us mean-spirited conservatives.
It's excellent that you point that out. Seawolfpunk's desire for Palin's demise is truly the height of tolerance and love. If it came to fruition the level of discourse for the problems our society faces would indeed become more moderate, considered and loving by a large degree.

Hateful shrill harpee's like Palin and Bachmann do NOTHING to advance useful discussion. They are both nothing but self-interested demagoguing egotistic vile scumbags who'll say anything to appeal to low-minded reactionary unthinking turds for their own political advancement and/or money.

So there's that.

Re: UAA @ Bemidji State: Get out of the gutter battle.

I interviewed Dave Shyiak today for my radio show (it will be available online tomorrow evening). I took Dave's "hockey" class when I went to NMU back in '95-'96, and when we were chatting about that before the interview, all he could say was, "all that means is we're both getting old." :p

Re: UAA @ Bemidji State: Get out of the gutter battle.

Minnesota = "The State of Hockey" ...

As per my policy, I must reiterate my objection to a state, which has no team that has ever won a Stanley Cup, calling itself "The State of Hockey".

Agreed.
What's more important, hosting a team of professionals, or producing the players?

So then Minnesota is hanging it's hat on it's "production line" of players eh? Is it a hockey player factory?

Hmm ... How can one measure that? I have an idea ... how about measuring it by the percentage of players from the state that reach the Division 1 ranks? I'm sure you'll want to talk volume though instead right? Argumentum Ad Numerum?

Answer these questions carefully ... if you dare. I assure you it isn't my first time around the block with regard to this discussion.

I'll submit to you in advance here that Alaska produces more Division 1 hockey players as a percentage of it's population than does Minnesota. And I'll happily stipulate that Minnesota produces more by volume.

Your turn ... or not.

What a lovely sort of demi-synergy then!!! I happened to interview your coach via Email this week. I have posted it in it's entirety on my blog.

In all honesty, I don't care enough to research it. Minnesota has as many Stanley Cups as Alaska does. Happy?

Re: UAA @ Bemidji State: Get out of the gutter battle.

Yes ... sure let's use 2004 numbers.

24 players from a state population of 600,000 (about which 300,000 have hockey available as a sport) versus 208 from a state with a population of 5,200,000 (about which 4 million have hockey available as a sport). So yes ... Minnesota produces more by volume (as I stipulated) and Alaska produces more as a percentage of it's population .... .008% for Alaska ... .0052% for Minnesota (if I moved the decimal points properly). Let's say that Minnesota has only 3 million potential instead of 4 though eh? Then Minnesota moves up to .0069%.

I've done that calculation a number of times and given closer consideration to the actual populations of hockey players (using USA hockey numbers and such) and Minnesota loses the comparison each time.

Re: UAA @ Bemidji State: Get out of the gutter battle.

using 2004 numbers Alaska had 4600 people in prison out 600,000...0.0076 for Alaska and Minnesota had 8800 people out of 5,200,000...0.0016. So Alaska wins again you should be proud.

LOL. Yes certainly. It appears we get a much bigger bang for our law enforcement and court bucks than does Minnesota; I'd tend to think you guys need more Margie Gunderson's out there and fewer Lou's ...

Oh wait ... I get it. You mean to imply that there are simply more scumbags and criminals in Alaska than Minnesota. You're right there. Alaska represents some sort of "Last Frontier" and last chance for many including scumbag criminals.

You really should read the WCHA Newbie Guide with a particular focus on the 4th recommendation.

I'll take what every other player, coach, GM, fan, equipment manager etc. wants: a Stanley Cup.

As with the genius from Mankato you seem to be missing the question in the argument. His answer was to point out the number of mean and nasty criminals Alaska produces in response to my assertion that Alaska produces more Division 1 players as a percentage of the population than does Minnesota. I showed where my assertion was indeed the case; making it a fact. Just as Mankato boy's had nothing to do with the context of my points yours doesn't either.

If you want to make some new assertion of your own feel free to do it. However, your post here has NOTHING to do with disproving or otherwise challenging the FACTS!!11!! that I established. Go back and read through the posts carefully before answering this. This is a medium of words. Address the words that I've used with words that have context ok? If you don't, I'm likely to eat your babies.
