UAA at Denver - Friday 11/21/11

Re: UAA at Denver - Friday 11/21/11

Well, despite the obvious officiating advantage that DU had in every minute of this game, the Pioneers are gifted yet another WCHA win. :p God help us tomorrow night.

Let's see:

1. We lose our leading scorer for the final two periods on a questionable major.
2. A DU goal is allowed where the player who scores is standing in the goal crease.
3. A DU player entering the zone offside scores the go ahead goal.

Yeah obvious is the word I would use. You did get lucky. You're not a better team, you're a luckier team.

Three pretty solid periods of hockey for the Seawolves. No reason to hang their heads. The difference in the game has to go to the early goal.

Don't know if anyone mentioned it but the third DU goal was clearly offside. It wasn't the first offside against DU that was missed either.

Two tough breaks for the Seawolves; one they should have controlled and one they had zero control over. The Seawolves are a resilient bunch though and should come out tomorrow night loaded for bear.

I'd like to ask why when a rushing offensive player dumps the puck at the blueline and then tries to skate around the D-man who intentionally ties him up isn't there an interference penalty called? With the puck 35 or 40 feet behind them DU defensemen stepped up into rushing UAA players and tied them up on at least five occasions. That's interference. Isn't it?

Murray's 4th win in a row. Brittain between the pipes tomorrow night.

Absolutely disagree. The difference was the third DU goal. UAA came back from both goals before and was in the game but that broke their back.

1. It was a clear CFB right in front of the ref. Shyiak didn't argue it, either.
2. Assume you meant DU's second goal? It was reviewed. If the refs had found anything wrong, it wouldn't have counted.
3. Would have to see a replay on the third DU goal. Seemed okay to me, but I could be wrong.
4. First place in the WCHA isn't luck.

Re: UAA at Denver - Friday 11/21/11

Kyle Ostrow interviewed on FSRM. "First, I want to thank my teammates. Second, I want to thank the refs for giving us this game. Although the Seawolves suck my nuts and have no talent, the refs really took our back tonight." LOL.

Well i've been sitting back and reading this thread without any ties to either school but it has been quite humorous to see the bickering back and forth but i have to say DU fans are quite the classless bunch. You should take this time to learn a thing or two from your coach before he's gone. Tick tick, times running out.

My posts are mine, not a reflection of the DU fan base slapnuts. But, thanks for taking the time to post here. Lebron. hehehe.

I was impressed with UAA. Gunderson is excellent, they move the puck well and their size creates a lot of bad matchups for DU. The only missing for UAA is high end finishers.

Gwoz said in the post-game DU has to play better. There was poor passing with players not being able to make passes from defense to forward and forward to forward. DU completely slowed down when they got their 1st PP after coming out guns ablazing in the 1st. Not happy with Jay Z trying to score that empty netter late by not going over the red line. Caused a face-off in the DU end on the icing. DU has to play smarter.

1. Shy did argue it, Haider made a point of saying coach wanted a chat with the ref. I have seen worse hits than that called crosschecking. It was by no means a vicious or even hard hit. There was no head contact, but he did get him in the middle of the back. Kind of a hard call for the ref, since they are supposed to call every one of these as a CFB, but they have clearly let up on this over the years.

2. I felt the second goal was a good goal. There was no interference with the goalie, and the "man in the crease" rule changed a long time ago.

3. Watch a replay of the winning goal, it was offside.

4. Congrats on first place in the WCHA.

Re: UAA at Denver - Friday 11/21/11

I also was impressed by this UAA team (JJ kinda took me off my game with his incessant whining). The real point is that this UAA team is so much better than their teams of the past in being a "team". Gunderson is great in net and Shyiak has built a team of skill players with role players. I wish that Grant had played the whole game as he's fun to watch. The UAA team seems to buy into Shyiak's philosophy more than any other team he's had since he's taken over. This team swept CC for a reason, and that reason is not because CC sucks. LOL. A great game tonight regardless of one's standpoint of officiating. Anyway, I'll be at the game tomorrow night and am excited to watch both teams in person.

JJ still needs to put on that green goalie mask as I'm sure he's more ugly now than he was a few years ago when I went up to UAA for the games. I, of course, am much better looking now.

Re: UAA at Denver - Friday 11/21/11

Here are the WCHA Stats after tonight's game. Clearly UAA's biggest problem is a lack of scoring as they are 11th in the league. With scoring just above 2 goals a game, they are not going to win a lot of close games. Especially since they are giving up just under 3 goals a game which is 9th in the league. If they could flip the stats they would have a number of more wins. Gunderson has impressed me in goal so he is not part of the problem. The problem is finishing around the net. The shots on goal tonight were slightly tipped in DU's favor 25-23 but DU was able to score that extra goal. UAA had 11 shots in the 2nd period and scored 0 goals.
