UAA 2009-2010 Season Thread

Re: UAA 2009-2010 Season Thread

Notre Dame is one of the most talented teams in the country with DU, so don't put too much into Michigan being the best team in the CCHA, but they are very talented, big and fast, so UAA-Michigan will be fun to watch.

Ditto. Count me surprised that UM was the preseason pick in the CCHA. Notre Dame has been a much tougher out the last couple of years.

However, it should still be a great test for both Alaska teams. Looking forward to seeing what happens.

Re: UAA 2009-2010 Season Thread

Is anybody els as excited as i am to see the UAA-Michigan game? If we beat the favorite team to win the CCHA I think we can make some noise in the college hockey world right at the get go

I am excited! I have never seen UAA before. And I haven't seen Anchorage in the daylight before (last year took the train down from Fairbanks and flew out the next morning). Anyway if you see a group of 5 Michigan fans (3 girls, 2 guys...at least I think that's how many we have now) in their 20's come say "hi".

As for UAA winning...well, we'll see. Michigan has a solid defense returning. Not so sure where the scoring will come from this season, but I'm sure it will be somewhere. The freshman looked good during the exhibition games.

Can't wait for the real season to start. Flying out on Thursday!

My bad. I meant to say that Michigan was one of the favorites to be on top of the ccha standings. Either way i'm stoked to see UAA play them on saturday

Re: UAA 2009-2010 Season Thread

I did notice this little tidbit. Although I couldn't remember if that was usually the case for exhibition games since the officials are always local guys. If that's the case, maybe they do that because their local guys. I'm not sure, though it would be interesting to know if any of the other teams had similar circumstances.

hey just on a side note, did anyone notice that the refs & linesman had numbers instead of their names on their backs last night?

Well yeah the refs at the exhibition games are the local guys so they could've been wearing their ECHL jerseys. Or the WCHA is likely going with numbered officials like practically every other league in North America.

I can;t wait to see the game! I think UAA will be the team that plays Michigan the closest at the Classic. It would be awesome to make some waves early in the season though.

I think the UAA/Michigan game will actually turn out to be pretty competitively close. UAA has a good percentage of top scorers returning this year. Freshman have looked good. Defense is pretty solid. Goaltending has been a running problem though and I don't know if its gonna be much better this season. Time will tell though...

Have a great time in AK while your here!!

Anybody know if the games are gonna be on TV this weekend?
According to the UAA press release, the games will be shown live on GCI.

This could very possibly be the case. I guess we will find out for sure come Friday!

Bryce and Jonnie both looked very solid in Wasilla. I think our goaltending will be okay this season. Kudos to Bryce for getting an assist too!

I did think that they looked strong, and definitely congrats to Bryce for the assist! (btw: I don't know if anybody else noticed his reaction right after the goal, but it was totally priceless!) But I for as strong as they looked, they didn't exactly face a ton of shots and particularly, many shots that had much of a chance anyway. I think that the classic will give a better idea of how goaltending will shape up this season.

Yup, we noticed! He sure was jazzed, and making sure he got credit where credit was due. I really like the way Bryce handles the puck, he is very confident. I love Jonnie-O too, but he is more of a stay at home goalie (is there such a thing?). They each have their own styles, and when they are "on", they both can play amazing.

Bryce makes some impressive saves, he's gotta stop the easy ones this year though

Re: UAA 2009-2010 Season Thread

Ok we are halfway through our season and I'm very dissapointed with the way this team has played. the main thing that frustrates me is the defense hasn't given our goaltenders help consistantly (st. cloud perfect example). I had high hopes for brustjen and he hasn't done anything to impress me yet. My MVP halfway for this team has to be Sean Wiles, he has come out of nowhere to be one of our top contributors and keep us in games. He would get my vote for Most improved player so far too. The line of Parkinson, Crowell, & Portwood has been very consistant energy line.

Come on wolves, lets have a better 2nd half please. GO SEAWOLVES!!!
