UAA `16-17 Let's end this thing with a BANG

Re: UAA `16-17 Let's end this thing with a BANG

Hate to bring this up again, but the hockey team would have improved if there was ice in the Alaska Airlines Center. All the teams that play there have gotten better, XC and track probably have improved due to just a better and larger weight room.

True, but that's water under the bridge, and the athletic dept. is tired of hearing about it. We don't play in the new arena, and UAA has to make the most of what they have. The Sully is still nicer than some of the other WCHA barns, from what I have seen on stretch. But the cost to use the Sully is killing us.

Anyone know what that 10 minute misconduct was for? Did coach Thomas get tossed?

Umm they do know they are literally in the playoffs every week now? Just to get in.

Honestly, I wonder if they even care. We need a new coach. I can't remember a time in 28 years of watching UAA hockey that one of our coaches got tossed for yelling at the ref. Tossing a water bottle, yes. But not screaming like a mad man.

Penalty from the bench. Coach was screaming at the ref, he was warned to stop, he didn't. He got tossed.
Looking at Live Score.
Azurdia got a 10 minute misconduct and the bench got one also.
So not sure how that works but evidently someone on the bench was upset at the Azurdia penalty and got hit with the same thing.
Is this correct?
We lead SOG at the end of 2 24/21.

That college basketball coach did it all the time, MLB managers also are known to do this. This usually provides a boost to their team.

On the other hand, we all know when the downfall of Shyaik started. 4-0....

I didn't look at the stats, and the Wildcats announcer isn't real good on keeping UAA fans in the loop. I assumed since they said it was a bench penalty and then the coach was tossed, that the 10 was on the coach. But it was on Azurdia?

I'm just looking at Live score.
Azurdia got the ten at 17something and Coach was tossed at period end so without having seen it I have no idea what went on. Why 10 to Azurdia? Why toss Coach at period end?
Maybe somebody that watched knows???

I don't know what happened to Azurdia, but Thomas was VERY angry about the call on him, and let the ref know. He was warned. I guess he blew up at the ref later in the period and got tossed. The announcer said he didn't see Thomas anywhere in the building. And considering how empty it was, he should have been able to spot him.

I heard at the holidays a local player named Conor Deal was joining the team. He is now listed on the team roster. Anyone know anything about him?

Pathetic.

Getting swept, 1-10 in goals, against a team that was below us no less.

Re: UAA `16-17 Let's end this thing with a BANG

If Thomas was not on the hot seat, he should be alone for this weekend. No excuses for playing like this anymore, not after the success we've had for that last month and a half. It's clear his smaller but more "skillful" teams have fared no better than previous coaches iterations. A freaking Amardillo behind the bench could've had the same success he had during his first season.

He should be on the hot seat! You know what, I don't put this on the players. We know they have the talent to compete.

The guys get a well deserved week off after a 2 week road trip.
We should be well rested and ready to play when Mankato gets to town.
It's a great day to be a Seawolf!

Road trips like those are brutal. Can't wait to see the guys again at the Sully. I think they will pick up where they left off before leaving Alaska. Give the fans some more exciting hockey, ok guys! We are with you, all the way.

Late in the period, Azurdia was yelling at Matt Thomas, and the ref overheard. The ref thought that the yelling was directed at him, so he gave Azurdia a 10 min. misconduct. Thomas argued with the ref enough at the time to garner a benchminor for unsportsmanlike conduct. After the period had ended, Thomas argued his point further, and after the ref gave him a clear warning (audible from the stands), Thomas kept going, was given another benchminor, and was ejected.

Hope this helped.

I can only pass on the info I have available to me

Either way, it's not a good reflection on UAA that Thomas was continuing to argue with the ref. So much so that he got tossed.

I know many a coach in many sports that have gotten tossed in an effort to light a little fire under their team. I also understand from what I've heard from persons on or near the bench that any grief Matt was giving the stripes was well deserved. Goofy Bison's version is pretty consistent with what I've heard.
