Maybe we'll get some grit tomorrow and split.

They HAVE to. Opening weekend they had a good crowd, beat Aces attendance numbers. Look what happened last night? They are killing their own program with these performances.

I know, before anyone knows what's going on we're behind 3-0 and our offense isn't overcoming a 3 goal lead, well so far anyway.

Re: UAA `16-17 Let's end this thing with a BANG

This weekends games were demoralizing, for the players AND the fans. What gives me hope is watching how the team responded in the 3rd period. Too bad they didn't continue that great play into the overtime. I would love to see the overhead view of our disallowed goal, because the ref immediately signaled goal. The puck didn't make the typical clanging sound, but more of a thud, and the puck came straight down afterward. Sure looked like a good goal. Pair that with the 2nd Huntsville goal that was scored with too many men on the ice, and this was a game UAA could have won, despite being outplayed for 2 of 3 periods.

Coach called the team "fragile". It's all in their heads. They started flat and played flat until they scored, then they were a totally different team. The short handed goal was scored because of HARD work and persistence. The season is very young, I hope these guys get it together, because tonight they showed us a glimpse of what they CAN be, and it was very entertaining, fun hockey to watch. To the players I say do not give up. There is plenty of time to turn it around, but it takes commitment from EVERY player.

Best of luck the rest of the way, especially with getting your scoring going.

Good news! I hear season tickets have went up 111%! Now if we can only win a game, it would be great!

Re: UAA `16-17 Let's end this thing with a BANG

Great news. I wonder if any of them showed up last weekend. It was pretty empty.

It looked like a UAH home game from two years ago. Hang in there. Hopefully it'll get better soon.

The thing is we had 3300 fans for their opening home games for the tournament. I think people are thinking "here we go again, another losing season" and are staying home. The team has to prove them wrong!!

After seven seasons of 10 home wins per, we've had ten seasons of 2.5 per. Our senior class in 14-15 hadn't won at home against a D-I team until we beat Lake Superior in November '14. You can imagine what our attendance is like.

Thankfully we get to play on Veterans' Day on Friday night, which is always a big crowd in an Army-focused city.

I asked in a UAF thread so I'll ask here:

Why close UAA athletics and not UAF athletics?
Anchorage is easier, cheaper travel and has a larger population base to support teams.

Can anyone provide some insight for those of us not from Alaska? I agree, for we outsiders, this is baffling.

And here's hoping the program survives.

In a nutshell, the state of Alaska is facing HUGE deficits due to a continual drop in the price of oil. As a result, the University of Alaska system has had very large cuts for the past two years, with more cuts coming next year as well. Although athletics is only 3% of the total budget, the university president thinks one way of overcoming these deficits is to save money by cutting some or all athletic programs. At the moment the programs on the chopping block are mens and womens skiing and mens and womens track.

Also, there's a 54 billion dollar investment/savings account that was established by smart guys who knew one day oil prices might drop and kill the state budget. That's enough to fully fund the state's 3 billion/yr budget for 18 years. And of course, that account grows by 2 billion a year. So you can see that there's no choice for politicians other than to cut post secondary education.

Re: UAA `16-17 Let's end this thing with a BANG

The BoR just approved that no sports are to be eliminated from UAA or UAF
Can you say where you saw or heard this?
That's really good news.
Everything I can find says Johnsen will recommend no cuts to the BOR.
I can't find anything saying the BOR accepted his recommendations.

ADN. I think the vote was 8-1, with one abstention, to not cut athletics.

I'd like to know who voted no.

Being more than a little slow I just found it.

It's a great day to be a Seawolf!
