Perhaps, but how has Lehigh been ranked in the top 10 all season and they finished #6? I think App. State is #9 after yesterdays results, for however much stock you want to put in the polls. Maine finished #13. We will certainly be underdogs in their house, but not by a wide margin.

I think that Maine lucked out by being sent to Appalachian State over Northern Iowa (nobody wins in that d*mn dome!) or one of the Montana schools (good luck UNH!).

Yea Maine definitely caught a break to go down and play in southern climes, tho quite high altitudes in Boone. UNH will get smoked. Well I'd prefer to keep talking football but this is a hockey forum so..... I'm closer to Portland than Orono in Winthrop and I'm trying to find a good reason to see Maine hockey down at the Civic center over thanksgiving weekend. I think I was telling folks to stay away from the turnstiles.

I know they aren't as good as recent years, but App State beat Michigan in the Big House and won a few Division IAA Titles in a span of several years. Hardly the opponent I'd want to see on my schedule for the playoffs. Lehigh would be much preferred.

They were much more talented then, when they beat Michigan. not to say they're not good now, but it's nowhere near the team that won those titles. That QB they had, Edwards, I think? was a one of a kind athlete, that's for sure. I think Maine has a better shot to win that game than UNH has to win out in sub zero Bozeman, MT. Good luck to da' Bears, that was an extremely exciting game yesterday (despite the rash of turnovers by both teams), it came right down to the end..

Agreed. You can't go by the program of recent years but rather, this years team. App State, I believe, has hovered just outside the top ten all year??? Who were their three losses to? The guys on the ESPNU selection show did mention some 6'6" reciever they(App St.) have tho. They also mentioned that Maine was limping in to the playoffs, having lost 2-3. But, they said that Maine finds ways to win, has a couple of good seconday players, and that they(App St) should expect a tough game. Who is televising the game? ESPNU?

Clearly, App State isn't quite as good as they've been in many recent years... I see this game as winnable; Maine just needs to take care of the football.

Seems that lately the committee has set things up so that CAA teams are on second-round collision-courses frequently. Not sure if that is the case this year; does anyone have a link to the entire bracket? (Hate to admit it, but I would even root for #@$%& UNH, as long as they're playing an OOC opponent.)

Lehigh stinks. Weak schedule, beat nobody.

The Patriot League generally does stink, but Colgate advanced from there to the title game a couple of years ago. (Think it was UMass that pounded them in the final.)

It's hard to gauge a team's merit when they blow through a weak league (eg. Boise, recently), but I wouldn't count them out just yet.

FCS football is nuts; all kinds of weird $h!t happens, all the time... Planning to watch every game involving a CAA team.

Interesting tidbit I dug up this morning:

Joey Diamond, who just passed Brent Shepheard for 4th place on Maine's PIM leaders, is a mere 88 PIM shy of Prestin Ryan's school record. His current 3.61 PIM/GM pace has him falling just short of it this season (projected for 83-ish R.O.S).

I don't doubt that he eventually surpasses Ryan, but I wonder how long Timmay leaves him out there taking our top-line off the ice with his bonehead penalties...

It was 2003 against Delaware. So long ago that Maine was good at hockey at the time.

The hockey team stayed over after the UMass game and supported the football team at Durham. Just trying to make this thread more hockey relevant.:)

Ahh. That explains the football loss...TIMMAY was in the house!!! Anyone see him with a headset on in the stands? :p

From the Kennebec Journal: "The University of New Hampshire followed two Maine turnovers with two touchdowns 15 seconds apart to beat the Black Bears 30-27 before 8,536 at Cowell Stadium."

Looks like Timmay's 2nd half magic wore off on Cozzy! :p :p :p

Appy St has won 51 out of the last 54 at home, with all 3 losses to top 10 ranked opponents.

UMO will be ranked around 13th or so is my guess, and UMO only defeated 1 team this season that made the post season (JMU in OT), and they really should have never made the playoffs seeing how they only had 1 win against a team over .500 (Liberty)

Early line APPY -7
