Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

... We need to win three out of the next four games and I think that it won't be that bad of first half outside of the disaster last weekend. It's nice that there are no more games the rest of the way at UNH, BC, or UMA which you could make an argument are the three places Maine struggles the most.

Next four are Clarkson, @ Vermont twice, and BU. I'd say three is doable but to do that I think we'd have to beat Vermont twice and we just don't win much on the road and we all know BU will be tough and Clarkson is certainly not a gimme game. I'd love to get six points but i think it's more likely we get 4...

Benching Diamond would be outright comical. He is one of 3 guys who can score and the only one (other than Cornell...and now maybe Rutt) who has ever heard of taking the body. 80% of his penalties are extremly soft calls. Not to mention that for every penatly (smart or dumb) he takes, he draws three.

Hate to break it to you, but this year he hasn't drawn near as many penalties as he has taking, after they benched Diamond after the Nodak game where he took 3 or 4 bad penalties, his next game back was prolly his best game all year. You need to sit these guys to let them know they can't keep taking dumb penalties and hurting the team, ie taking lots of penalties this year when we are on the pp, not to mention a 5 min major in OT. If they don't bench him and move him back to the second line that may also make him smarten up and keep him in the lineup. We could use Beattie up on the first line, some1 who can see the ice better to help setup Flynner and Abbott, instead of driving to the net with your head down
On a + side, the faceoffs were great last night for a change.

nah, the guy you are responding to is right, they are soft calls.

if Tim had the respect of the officials, they would not call joey for most of the things he does.
Jackie's boy s get away with murder and draw the most questionable calls in the league.

you cannot bench Diamond for playing hockey

Great job by Sullivan (35 saves, 13 grade A's). I wasn't at the game, but the stats indicated that Maine's defense was very good on the penalty kill, the minutemen went 0 - 7, while Maine was 1 - 3. The down side being Maine is committing too, many penalties.:( I don't know about Diamond, he has been benched and seemed to improve, now he has regressed. I wonder if he will ever understand. According to the radio, Tim was talking to him going off the ice after his 2nd penalty and then he commits a third in OT.:( Anthoine is improving and I'm hopeful the team will get better as the season goes along. I much prefer them improving as the season progresses, opposed to getting worse as has happened in past years.

so timmy talks to Diamond as he is going off the ice, while Jackie would be screaming at the refs... and getting fewer penalties called on the scarlet satans... hmmmm.

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

Is it just me or is Diamond incapable of playing a good game on the road? ..

ya think that just maybe the home team gets those calls? and it's not really joey at all
take a look at how many penalties are called on both teams each night... it is usually pretty even... and when one team has more penalties than the other, the refs often look for close ones to call on the other team... too many refs buy into the idea that "we don't want the officials to determine the outcome"

Too bad, too, 'cause they probably would've hosted a playoff game had they won...

Not complaining, though, they're having a great year, they definitely seem to be "in", and I'm hoping some obscure channel will have the game on the tube.

Is tomorrow Selection Sunday?

Yes and they could host a game next Saturday. The bidding process for the FCS playoffs may work in Maine's favor if they bid enough.

Doubt you'll see Maine play next weekend....pretty sure they earned a bye

lost 2 out of 3, I can't see them getting a home game

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

I thought this was a hockey thread? Pretty said when most of the posts on a UMaine hockey thread concern the football team.

I agree that Joey goes over the line on occasion, but you have to admit that he never gets the benefit from the refs, and every act is penalized whereas other players seem to get away with much worse offenses. He's one of the few red-blooded, gritty players on this team. It would be nice to see his hard work and grit rewarded by the coach because that's exactly what this team needs more of, the willingness to do the dirty work and go to the tough places on the ice and battle.

Diamonds a GAMER...and YES it is sad that Football over rides Hockey of late...but that shows you the state of Maine Hockey....change is needed behind the bench...also missed on Maine FB getting at bye...on the road @ Appalachian State...tough team.

Tough draw vs ASU on the road but at least they have an extra week to prepare.

I think Maine football recieved the most favorable matchup among the other CAA teams, tho Towson does have a home game. I'd rather play App. State(8-3) than either Montana St.(9-2) or Lehigh(10-1).

Lehigh stinks. Weak schedule, beat nobody.
