Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

I think that under normal conditions UMO might have a shot at a reeling UNH team, but make no mistake about it, UNH is like hornet's nest right now after their recent exploits, and I expect this team to make a stand at home.

UNH has also won 2 straight and gets UMass Friday night, so maybe their early game struggles are behind them. They're also averaging roughly 35 shots per game yet only have a 2.29 goal per game average. That's going to rise if they keep shooting like that. (As a comparison Maine is currently averaging 3.17 GPG / 30 SPG)

I think Maine can win Saturday night though.

Keys:
1. Quiet building with an early goal (or two)
2. Forecheck like mad
3. Sustain a 3rd period lead

That & UMO rarely if ever wins at UNH. I think the wheels are about to come off at UMO. I just have a sense that this weekend will be the beginning of the end for the Whitehead era for some reason....

Maybe I'm wrong. We'll soon find out.

Plus, it's now November, and time for the TIMMY swoon to begin.

I see this weekend as another week of great Black Bear hockey. Coach Whitehead is doing a great job teaching the boys.

We have a great shot at bringing home some points but whatever happens I'll still be rooting on our team.

Go Black Bears!

Man I can't remember the last time Maine executed all of those keys in a road game.

I can't as well. Those should be simple things to execute for a fairly good hockey team consistently, and the thing that bugs me most about Whitehead is that he doesn't demand those sorts of things as a head coach.

Perhaps we should start calling Maine a "bubble-gum" team as it properly fits Timmay's style...

Sort of a minor point, but FYI UMO is now UMaine. You are really dating yourself.:D It's the flagship university and was renamed a long time ago.

The wheels have been off for years, if you ask me, and Tim has shown absolutely no signs of having the ability to put them back on. It's just impossible to fool myself into thinking that he'll ever figure it out anymore.

Still, wouldn't be shocked to see Maine win at UNH. (The annual swoon usually starts around Christmas, ho-ho-ho.)

Your right on the swoon part after the Florida Classic.

When they start to act like a real D1 program in all sports then I will refer to them as UMaine. Until then they are UMO in my eyes.

Can they act like one without the money???........because they never will if money is a prerequisite.

how's merrimack been acting?
and I will not believe for a second that they have the money that Maine just put into the new, reduced-seating Alfond
