"Recently promoted rookie forward Gustav Nyquist is pegged to play his first game for the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday against the Minnesota Wild. And his role should be fairly significant.

Ansar Khan of mlive.com reports Nyquist will play on the second line, with Johan Franzen and Todd Bertuzzi. The 22-year-old excelled in that spot to wrap-up the Wings' preseason. He's also poised to play on the second power-play unit.

Nyquist is set to replace Jiri Hudler in the lineup, while forward Fabian Brunnstrom was assigned to Grand Rapids."



He's gonna be thrown right into the fire apparently.

Can someone please try and explain how a team such as UMO can get back into the NCAA tourney without earning a road win against a .500 or above team? UMO has not acomplished this feat since 2009-10, and this year's addition is argueably the worst team in a very long time.

And on top of that UMO only scheduled 1 OOC .500 or above team (UND, whom they already lost to), so winning the HE is the only portal into the dance.

Someone please explain?

I wouldn't be surprised if the way the teams have been picked in recent years gets abandoned. I forget the names of the teams but I'm pretty sure there were two teams picked for the bball tournament who everyone said shouldn't have been picked on paper and they caused all kinds of damage. The way it is done now is really ridiculous. There are way too few games played for the system to work fairly. I think this team without a doubt is the best all around team Maine has had since 2007. I would say Maine is six out of six as far as putting in decent performances this year which is nice to see and something that has been lacking in recent times.

I agree with you Drew. This is not the worst team it is actually one of the better teams. You all will realize this after this weeked.

They won't beat BC,especially if Marty continues to roam around like Bish did. they have a chance against UNH.

Maine has a good chance to win both games, that's why the games are played. When looking at this year's performances of UNH and BC, there is a greater chance that Maine will defeat UNH.

Tough task for Maine at both BC & UNH...BC with York will be ready for Maine,give York a week and he'll have a game plan...as far as UNH,depends...this could be the time to beat them at home...also how they handle the larger ice surface...both on the power-play and killing off penalty's. I myself don't have a good feeling this weekend,but as they and others have said: They play the game on the ice.

Maine has a good chance to win both games, that's why the games are played. When looking at this year's performances of UNH and BC, there is a greater chance that Maine will defeat UNH.

Edit: On a more serious note, Nyquist with some power-play time for DET early in the game. 1:06 in the 1st period.

Sully was straying way too far out of his crease in traffic vs. UND, too...

Neither of these guys are "3rd-D" types. They need to stay home and stay focused if they expect to keep the BC game close. Maybe UNH is a team they're catching at the right time, but I see no reason at all to expect Maine to win at Conte this weekend. None.

I actually would disagree with this. A point on Friday will be very tough. But a win against UNH, especially this season, is certainly not require a miracle.

We'll know a lot more about this Maine team in a few days, though, that's for sure. I think Maine is better than I expected but not sure how much or what that really means considering I didn't expect much.

I just hope that Maine outshoots BC at Conte again so even in a loss BobF will be happy like last season with the moral victory.

I think that under normal conditions UMO might have a shot at a reeling UNH team, but make no mistake about it, UNH is like hornet's nest right now after their recent exploits, and I expect this team to make a stand at home.

That & UMO rarely if ever wins at UNH. I think the wheels are about to come off at UMO. I just have a sense that this weekend will be the beginning of the end for the Whitehead era for some reason....

Maybe I'm wrong. We'll soon find out.
