TV: There She Is, The Old Radiation King

When I first got HDTV, I swear I watched nature shows for 4-5 days straight. It's amazing.

What irks me is the compression that HDTV has currently on satellite and cable. I remember being able to count blades of grass during baseball games. Now it's a muddy pixelated mess.

I also get a kick out of Best Buy (And similar) bragging about watching the "big game in ultra HD!!" I know of no service airing the Super Bowl in 4k. Even over-the-air, the best you'll get is uncompressed HDTV.

"And we must all protect nature because without nature there would be no nature show hosts."

That's your money grubbing cable and internet providers at work. Bandwidth costs money.

But we don't need net neutrality. The big corps would never do anything that would hurt us, pizz off their customers and possibly jeopardize their business model. That would be stupid.

Unless that model was a monopoly.

That's why I didn't bother to update my TVs. The maximum Internet speed to my house is 15Mbps. I wouldn't be able to consistently get ultra 4K mega HDTVHBO or whatever on a regular basis, much less in two streams. If we had real Internet it'd be worth it, but not with what's available now.

I am getting fiber optic this spring (way cheaper than Comcast too) so that’s why I upgraded

My mother asked if since I was willing to spend a few bucks to get over-the-air antenna for the house why I didn't just run fiber optic to the house for better Internet speeds.

Re: TV: There She Is, The Old Radiation King

It doesn't matter, they can still choose to compress the signal they're delivering to your house. Allows them to service more accounts down the same size pipe.

Re: TV: There She Is, The Old Radiation King

I'm liking the new Fox show "The Resident".

... maybe it's Emily Vancamp ...

Man that show is painful. It actually has very good accuracy in 5-10% of situations and the rest is TV bull****. Oh wait...you were referring to something else about the show

We've been rewatching Community on Hulu. God **** seasons two and three were outstanding. The paintball episodes, the Dungeon and Dragons episode, the Law and Order ripoff, the Ken Burns spoof, solid gold tv.

Yes, that was the time it was the best show on TV.

Finished up S3 of The Wire tonight. So far, excellent show, but can't put it over BB quite yet. Still going to wait on the final judgement. I will say, it will be really interesting to see how the last 2 seasons go, given the massive change of direction that will have to happen, given the loose ends that were tied up in the last couple of S3 eps.
