TV: There She Is, The Old Radiation King

Re: TV: There She Is, The Old Radiation King

Sorry, but speaking as a recovering drunk, I've been drunk off my $(%*$(%*ing arse and haven't molested or raped anyone, especially no one underage. This isn't farking rocket science.

Re: TV: There She Is, The Old Radiation King

Yeah, Family Guy just got lucky with predicting it  Plenty of articles make it sound like Spacey has a habit of getting handsy with young (but not underage) men.

Re: TV: There She Is, The Old Radiation King

Spacey doesn't outright deny it, so he must believe it was possible or even remembers it specifically.

I've been all kinds of messed up and have never, ever tried to seduce (assault... rape...) a 14 year old - boy or girl.

You guys are nuts trying to rationalize the alleged action.

No... it's never excusable.

Drunk... 31 years ago... she was SUPER hot...

I realize you guys are thinking out loud, but maybe you shouldn't.

Ruining someone's career over a single unsubstantiated allegation is a different issue altogether and I believe there is a conversation to have there.

I don’t think anyone is excusing it. If that’s how you’re reading my post then I didn’t do a good enough job conveying what I was asking.

I’m talking about ruining someone’s career over a single incident. If it isn’t a onetime horrible mistake, then obviously that changes things.

I don't think anyone is defending the action. We're trying to figure out that last line in your post...Spacey is probably done for quite a few years, if not for good, because of this. Now, if more allegations come out, then this discussion will have to adapt to that.

Re: TV: There She Is, The Old Radiation King

I mean, to sum up...

It's okay to attempt a sexual assault on a minor as long as it was only once and was many years ago.

Did I read that right?

Did I read that right?

No.

1. Is the allegation true? Most likely
2. Should this single allegation end Spacey's career? No.
3. Will this "single allegation/game over" pattern continue for anyone accused of such incidents (assuming it was a single incident, and not a pattern)? I have no idea.

That's exactly what dx is arguing. What a joke.

30+ years ago and drunk? Oh, that's OK. That's like saying he drove drunk and hit/seriously injured someone, and he's got no problem with it. It was just once.

Re: TV: There She Is, The Old Radiation King

I’m asking assume that it is true but a one time thing.

Yeah, it's more than likely not. Spacey's love of twinks was so well-known that even I'd heard of it before all this happened, and I didn't know about the Weinstein stuff, which was apparently just as well-known. Not that those exploits are necessarily illegal, but it was extremely well-known that he had a certain type.

Re: TV: There She Is, The Old Radiation King

If it comes out that this was part of a pattern and not an isolated incident where Spacey made an extremely poor decision, then obviously that changes things. Similar to the Paterno deal. When it came out Sandusky had pulled this **** for a long time, was obviously a predator, and that the school covered things up, I completely flipped.

But let’s say this was a single horrible decision. Do we cast him out because of it? Because it seems like this is what we do now. .... I’m sure we wouldn’t want to be judged by our actions 30 years prior.

I feel uneasy for even defending the guy on the fringes. Am I completely off base here?

Maybe you should explain this better.

Seems like you'd lean towards giving him a pass coz it was only one time.

He was 26 at the time. If he did this, he knew better and was an adult preying on a vulnerable youth.

No excuse.

Now, was it a one time thing and it never happened again? Say the drunk driver in your situation learned from his mistake and never drove drunk again? Should be be punished for the rest of his life? That's what were asking here.....

Re: TV: There She Is, The Old Radiation King

I mean, if this is a one-time thing, it's not like we're having a Weinstein conversation here. Spacey may not remember it at all.

And of course, as always... Brent is "just sayin'."

Oh good grief...#ItWasThe80s Ok... You know that first-time DUIs have to attend 6 months of AA in many jurisdictions, yes? Odds are, he/she has sinned before, just hasn't been caught yet.

But what if the punishment was a first-time DUIer could never drive again (legally)?

And I know most of the penalties for first (and second time) DUIers, as I have a couple friends who have gotten them.

Re: TV: There She Is, The Old Radiation King

We're talking about a theoretical attempted sexual assault of a child.

For ****'s sake, don't give Brent the out of a false equivalency. That's his wheelhouse.

In Europe, that is a common sentence, IIRC.

I didn't bring up the drunk driver thing! :p

Again, NO one is saying the Rapp thing is "okay."

Does one deserve to be basically stripped of a future career due to ONE incident 30+ years ago? And will this be SOP for the future?

And remember, IF there are more allegations, yes, that changes the discussion drastically.

Oh ffs. Why not stop at ending his career. Let’s just drag him out to the street and shoot him.

Thanks for addressing what I was asking. Or at least not misrepresenting what I said.

To your point, you’re probably right. I had heard of the Weinstein thing from a post on Reddit a few years back and if Spacey was as well known as that, then it would lend quite a bit of credence to the idea that this isn’t an isolated case. Obviously he should be punished through the legal system - really anyone who commits a crime. I guess at this point it's wait and see if anyone else comes forward.

Re: TV: There She Is, The Old Radiation King

Weistein rumors and such were common, yes. I was unaware of Spacey's reputation. I was aware of Kilmer's and Seagal's reputations, also.

I agree we'll have to wait and see if there are any more allegations.
