Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men
Something occurred to me today:
Pete won't screw it up (well, in the usual Pete way). He'll quit McCann...and then find out there WAS no offer, and Duck was lying. Pete goes flying off the building, not Don.
Seeing Jones on Last Man on Earth is interesting -- she isn't acting stiffly as Betty, she's acting stiff. Just as MM is a study of three versions of what it is to be a man (Don, Roger, Pete) it's also a study of three versions of what it is to be a woman (Joan, Peggy, Betty). The most valuable legacy of the show is that with the exception of Peggy and Roger (and he only sometimes) none of these models was visible or even comprehensible in the ALL I HAVE IS IRONY cramped culture of the current moment. MM has been a cure for the 21st century which, in case people haven't noticed, hasn't been turning out very well in regards to the perpetual adolescence it offers as models for adult behavior.
I'm rooting for Pete. The key note of the show has been that people never change, and I'd like to see that subverted for the most undeserving and unpleasant character, because the other key note has been you can lose everything in an instant -- even the comfort of justice.
