Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

Finished House Of Cards. The final 3 eps should be binge-watched, and although solid, this season foreshadowed so much, it lost its spontaneity, which is what made HoC so great in the first place. The best moments were during the dealings with the Russians, IMO. I hope that S3 was just re-finding the series' legs, as this season was originally unplanned.

Have not watched much of season 3 of the US version of House of Cards yet. It's been fascinating to see how well they translated the British version to the US political system (in seasons 1 and 2 and apparently in US season 3 vs the first half of British season 3), and also how well they've captured the spirit and essence of the original by also making it so well that it could stand alone in its own right. the two versions have paralleled each other very well, without being too similar. It's been kind of fun to anticipate how the US plot twists would work out based on knowing how the British one progresses.

I was a bit surprised that the US season 3 ended as it did (no I haven't seen it but [redacted, spoiler], so there must be a season 4 coming. I really wonder how they will translate the end of the British HoC version to the US one.

Great ep of The Americans this week.

Justified was also solid. Love Ava's actions. It was her only play.
Agreed on both. The scenes with Frank Langella and that last scene with Paige and Elizabeth are going to have some ramifications.

And how fantastic was that entire subplot with Boyd and Ava?

Last Man on Earth is on tonight. Get excited people

Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

Well, was watching Allegiance and apparently NBC has already pulled it after 5 episodes.
Watched Stalker all season and they cut it off 3 episodes before season end. No idea if they'll air them or not.

Meanwhile I've been checking out watching Dig on USA and The Slap on NBC. Both apparently limited mini-series types. The Slap being 8 episodes and Dig being 10. both are pretty good so far.

Not overly impressed with Battle Creek but watched it anyway. Even though I love CSI and have watched every iteration I decided to sit out the new CSI:Cyber. Enough is enough.

Thats the new Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad) project, isn't it? What network?

I really hate that CBS pulled out of Hulu Plus last fall, was watching a bunch of their programming through Hulu.

It's on CBS after The Good Wife on Sunday night.

So anyone watch last man on earth?

I watched the first 2 episodes. The best thing is that Kristen Schaal finally has a vehicle of her own. I can't exaggerate how much I love her work. There were good touches; I worry they won't be able to keep with the premise and will start sneaking other characters in. For now I am guardedly optimistic.

Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

Finished House Of Cards.

Dr. Mrs. Kepler and I finished it this weekend. Spoilers/comments thusly:

1. I am disappointed in the direction they took Claire's character. There's a wonderful exchange during S3: "I hate what we've become." "What have we become?" "Like everyone else." I loved Claire's character in the first two seasons, which was original, complicated, self-contradictory, and believable. From the moment she slags Petrov in the Russian presser onwards her character became lazy and mundane. Probably not coincidentally, that corresponds to the episodes Robin Wright directed. This seems a clear case of a talented actor who doesn't have the intellectual subtlety to understand their own character. Her cliff hanger walk off was inane.

2. I loved Petrov and want to hire that actor for everything. The in-close scenes between him and FU were the best scenes in the series thus far.

3. All the writers and journos on the show have been insipid. Zoe was only saved because Kate Mara has such wonderful acting chops, but since then -- the WaPo editor, the old warhorse political writer, the Troubled Biographer, his lame White House Press Corps squeeze, Jesus... who writes this crap? All lame, 2-dimensional, boring creatures.

4. Doug continues to be one of the most interesting characters in TV history.

5. As a whole, season 3 was an improvement over season 2 but not as strong as season 1. The whole thing is still well worth watching, though.

We started Dig. I'm pessimistic. On the one hand, interesting lead, a premise one has to work actively to ruin, and all the local color, history and emotion to make a great limited run series. On the other hand, at least a third of the pilot was wasted on mind-numbingly boring chase scenes, shakycam, and nursery school dialog between the lead and his boss/lover/BFWB. She needs to die as soon as possible to give the show a chance.

I also love Kristen Schaal. She's awesome.

I watched this last night. I may need to re-watch and not do anything while watching because I'm really confused. I like shows like this but this one had me a little confuzzled.

And I was wondering why Allegiance wasn't on this Thursday. NBC pulled it?? I was actually getting into it!! That bums me out.

I watched Last Man Standing last week. I recorded last night's episode and was debating about watching it. I'll give it another try. It was an interesting premise but you did have to suspend belief - something I have absolutely no problem doing. I was just wonering if they were going to slip any dialogue in there about where he got the gas to drive the bus everywhere.

Everything online says poor ratings, yank, done. I'm sure they were thinking with The Blacklist lead in they'd get some ratings but that slot is full. Elementary on CBS, AND How To Get Away With Murder was finishing up on ABC. Then Dig started this week on USA. All on at exactly the same time as Allegiance. Sometimes the TV folks don't think things through very well.

more importantly they don't give shows a chance, if they're going show the full run of a TV show, they probably shouldn't announce its canceled until near the very end to give a show a chance, once a show is canceled, who is going to invest any time in trying to watch it?

Well, now they don't even bother. I'd like to at least see the end of the first season of Stalker. But, now it's off the air and who knows if I ever will?

Points 2 and 4 get a double-thumbs-up from me. As for Point 4...you just couldn't really figure him out until the end. Excellent writing of that character.

Better Call Saul...

just got real.

Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

Unbelievable Mike episode.

This has the potential to be on par with BB if it continues the arc it's getting on.

Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

Those last five minutes were as good as if not better than the "no half measures" scene.

Crap. Gonna have to buy the Amazon Season Pass for this show now, and catch up. What you said is a VERY bold statement. That scene is probably my favorite of the whole BB series. And I'm not sure if it's close.

Unreal and so REAL.

First time I'm watching the encore presentation of an episode...
