If only they had run that ad right after John Legend, at least we would know there is one NBC production person with a sense of humor.

Funny how they never get to the 4th verse.

There was a high wall there that tried to stop me
A sign was painted said "Private Property"
But on the backside it didn't say nothin'
This land was made for you and me.

Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

Somehow missed Budweiser's 'Murica ad. Something tells me I might be glad.

There was a loud mouth in college who kept droning on so much about how great Budweiser was, we finally had enough. "you think Budweiser is so great? Okay, we challenge you to a blind taste test."

We had four different brands of mainstream beer (Miller, Budweiser, two similar, maybe Rolling Rock and Old Style or something like that), and five glasses (the second part of the taste test was to see if each one of the participants could correctly name which two glasses contained the same duplicate beer).

Everyone did match the duplicate beers, which was encouraging (i.e., there actually was a noticeable difference in taste), and every participant had Bud either 3rd or last. I don't remember which beer one, all I recall is that we never had to listen to this guy bloviate about Budweiser ever again.

Little EoDS likes Peppa Pig. Not sure how much I approve of what a buffoon Daddy Pig is.

I can't stand that show just because of all the obnoxious oinking. The dad as a buffoon thing is a pretty common trope on a lot of kids shows.

I tell you what, though: I would watch 1,000 episodes of Peppa Pig before willingly switching over to watch Dora the Explorer. Oinking and all.

Kevin Smith (Clerks, etc) had a great take on Dora during one of his "One Night With"s.

Thought about getting a season pass for "Better Call Saul," but will wait for the DVDs/Netflix, to see if it's any good. Amazon's usual price is about $35/season for a show in HD, so I don't think I want to chance the investment at this time, especially since I just bought The Americans and Justified, and Mad Men is coming up soon.

Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

Sure, they all laughed when I proposed The Bachelor as the Aeschylus of our time. They clearly did not foresee the Transfiguration of Kelsey Poe.

I assumed, while watching the last episode, that Kelsey's "amazing story" was fabricated as her audition for tear-jerker movies of the week or, I dunno, widow hand cream modeling.

It wasn't. It's real.

I can't do justice to the pathology of what went down, not just with Kelsey but the whole episode. I'll just recommend that those who watch not miss it, and those who don't -- well, you're both poorer and richer for the experience.

Yeah, her whole way of telling the story and calling it "amazing" just had an incredibly sociopathic fell to it.

It doesnt matter how much you try and dress it up with fancy words, you still watch The Bachelor by choice and enjoy it meaning you are the lowest common denominator ;)

You are really heavily invested in my viewing habits.

Can't really handle either. I vote for Oswald. There's a nice show that can put anyone to sleep with how calm everything is. Plus a dog named "Weenie" that looks like a hot dog... what's not to like there.

"Isn't my story great? I mean, it's a great story. How great is my story? This is my redemption."

That was so good. She talks about her dead husband with the emotional depth of someone talking about an average sandwich they had for lunch 4 years ago. I really, really, really hope Taylor Swift Bachelorette becomes the next Bachelorette. She doesn't shower for weeks, wears makeup to bed, was pretty ****ed confrontational about really minor stuff the other week...she's my favorite this season by a long shot so I hope she doesn't get picked by Chris "I have no upper lip but can still form words" Soules.

I demand a camera follow Kardashian Bachelorette around at all times just to see how many times a day she breaks down crying for no good reason.

Justified was pretty solid. It'll be interesting to see how the pawns work their employers and such.

Heavily invested? You post them on a public message board in a thread about tv which is the internet equivalent of saying "look at me I watch this too!" there is no investment needed. :)

I mock anyone that watches the Bachelor, dont think it makes you special ;)

(in other words...stop getting so defensive I am just poking the bear a bit)

Well, I may be mixing you up with someone else, but ever since I had the temerity to call out The Departed as garbage and The Dark Knight as pedestrian, somebody here has been stalking me for hurting their fanboy feelings.

Plus... if you don't catch the self-mockery in a Bachelor review...

Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

I'd probably enjoy a show like The Bachelor if it were real. But, it's not. It's the most fake thing on the planet.

Of course, silly -- that makes it better. While viewing you ask yourself, why are they creating their personas? What is the id the producers are tapping into with these plot arcs? How can women like this sustain life when it is a struggle for them to remember to breath from moment to moment? What is the proportion of brood sows out there in Middle America who respond to this stuff by buying the brand of tampons advertised on the show? When did reality become so dismal that even this adolescent wish-fulfillment became the secret garden of The Great Unwashed?

Like everything we see on the idiot box, it's contrived. It's wrestling -- there are heroes and heels and everybody is in it to keep the rice bowl moving.

The only true reality TV is a plane crash or a fire that kills three babies. Nobody needs that; we know from our lives what that's all about.

Actually that's a pretty good argument. I still won't watch it, but I see your point.
