Re: TV Shows VII: Who gets canceled next?

Been catching up on Hell on Wheels, and a couple points. First, the cinematography on this is just amazing. The shots of the open prairies, and especially the Indians coming through the woods in the first episode are just gorgeously filmed.

Second, aging has been good for Anson Mount. He used to be just a pretty boy actor, but putting a few years on has added character and some gravitas to his face. Maybe it's the scruffy beard also. Plus, it seems he's become a better actor during that period as well.

How can you tell? 90% of his job on HoW is grunting and looking slightly angry. That's far from a great show, but good enough to watch. It's disappointing though because it feels like it could be a great show, but quite often misses the mark.

A Very Sunny Christmas is on. I could watch Charlie Kelly play a Simon for hours.

Because ten years ago, even that was beyond his abilities.

I'm liking Hell on Wheels, I think I'm 4 episodes in and so far-so good.

Watched the fourth episode today, and it's more than just him delivering his lines. The stuff he's doing physically really works for his character, the way he holds himself, and his body movements. For me, good acting is when you don't see the actor doing a character, you just see the character as if he's a real, actual person, and he's got it down in this show. And like I said earlier, when he was younger, he was just a pretty boy playing a role. Now, he's an actor.

I appreciate that AMC is playing Breaking Bad's first season in order every Sunday night. Especially since I still haven't seen most of the first 1.5 seasons and I finally got DVR a few weeks back.

I have been re-watching the series...some of the foreshadowing is awesome. Jesse not dealing with kids is one thing that stood out. And there's a lot more....

Re: TV Shows VII: Who gets canceled next?

Survivor finale was last night, and the person I know ended up winning it all! :):D:):D:)
What did she win? Is it $1,000,000? A girl I know won something like $400,000 on that gameshow with the briefcases hosted by Howie Mandell. Then she married some twerp that might have outkicked his coverage more than anyone in history. :p

Yes, a million bucks. You know someone who was on Deal or No Deal?

Re: TV Shows VII: Who gets canceled next?

Yeah. She had the $2,000,000 in her case, got down to 3 cases and the only 3 left were $10, $2,000 and $2,000,000 so she took the deal for $400,000.

Ouch, and a double deal game, too! Of course, that show was so darn desperate that they had half the cases worth $1,000,000, and they STILL couldn't give it away!

Anyone remember the show "Treasure Hunt" with Geoff Edwards and the bonded security guard?

SNL with Fallon had more than 1 good bit, but I really enjoyed this one:

Rudolf

Rudolf

Just saw "Rudolf" again last night with the family.

That show, and the song "There's Always Tomorrow" in particular, is an inflection point of American culture, after which the rot set in and the death spiral of tiresome, enervating irony began. But there was a time when Americans actually tried to put aside their navel-gazing and live life authentically, and for one brief shining moment, did.

Two other neat things from the Interwebs:

First: Burl Ives wrote that song. So, picture Big Daddy from "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" writing Clarice's song. (We can guess what she did to get the part. Clarice has "dirty girl dressed up as nice girl" all over her.)

"One never knows, do one?"

Second: We didn't misunderstand the word "pretend" growing up. That song is deeply existential.

Artist: Burl Ives
Title: There's Always Tomorrow
------------------------------------

There's always tomorrow,
For dreams to come true,
Believe in your dreams
Come what may.

There's always tomorrow,
With so much to do,
And so little time in a day.

We all pretend
The rainbow has an end
And you'll be there my friend someday.

There's always tomorrow,
For dreams to come true,
Tomorrow is not far away.
