Re: TV Shows VII: Who gets canceled next?

I just reviewed one of those "ten new shows" lists and saw two I will try, but without much hope: American Horror Story and Ringer. Since I religiously watch Vampire Diaries my tolerance level of these types of shows is very high. We'll see -- if nothing else they may be entertaining trainwrecks (in a lot of ways, that's VD's appeal).

I enjoyed the premiere of American Horror Story. Its actually quite scary and disturbing. Most of those types of shows end up being horrible, but this one has a lot of angles, unknowns, and twists that I think might end up making it a good show. Of course I liked it, so you'll probably despise it for some reason. :D

Re: TV Shows VII: Who gets canceled next?

I said it the last thread also, but my favorite new show, by far, is Revenge on ABC. I hope others feel the same, because it will **** me off if this one gets cancelled.

I was very optimistic after the first episode, but it seems to have settled in to a horrible pattern of randomly introducing new people who are taken down in about 20 minutes and then moving on rather than actually taking the time to build a cohesive story.

American Horror Story was entertaining, not sure I like it's long term prospoects though.

Re: TV Shows VII: Who gets canceled next?

Death by main character's baby. Tale as old as time.

It isnt the baby, it is the year leading up to the baby where the couple is trying to get pregnant but nothing works in hilarious fashion. Then there is two episodes where they worry something is wrong with each of them, then they give up and then a MIRACLE HAPPENS!! By that point it just is old and you wish they were sterile...

Re: TV Shows VII: Who gets canceled next?

Anyone watch the South Park special Sunday night? Trey Parker doing a Japanese guy is ALWAYS funny.

Re: TV Shows VII: Who gets canceled next?

It was brutal...seriously the best part was actually not aired at all. Thankfully it was posted online:

Ewok Presentation

Nub Nub...

The focus group part was funny, but other than that, yeah. The Ewok presentation was underutilized. Robin, Ted, and Barney's storylines sucked, Marshall's was unbelievable (and wastes Martin Short), and Lilly, well, I'm fine with her having reduced screen time these days.

I think the show will start off like this, but as it moves along in the season we'll start to see people whose characters have been built up throughout the season start to be taken down. They can't have Emily take out the other main characters right at the start of the season, and they aren't able to introduce everyone in the first episode. At some point Emily is going to start going after the Graysons directly and that should lead to some great episodes. What I'm really waiting for is to see how the Emily-Jack?? storyline progresses. It is obvious that something happens there, given what we know from the first episode. When does Jack?? figure out that Emily=Amanda? Also, at some point Victoria is going to figure out who Emily is, and that should be pretty entertaining.

(I think the guy's name is Jack, but I can't remember for sure right now)

It is Jack. Not sure how the season will play out either as there would have to be 22 people involved with her father's arrest. Then what? Unless season 2 is Victoria's revenge on Emanda for the death of her son. And no, that's not a spoiler as he was shot in the opening scene of the premiere.

On a separate note, I started to watch my TiVo recording of Terra Nova last night only to see that the baseball game had gone long. Was able to cat it in its entirety though. I'm sure you're all relieved for my sake. Anyway, here are the opening two paragraphs to TWoP's weecap of Tera Nova. Made me laugh:

So this episode of Terra Nova opens with the Tigers and the Rangers tied at three in the top of the tenth inning. Neftali Feliz gets Ryan Rayburn to swing for the second strike but then throws two straight balls for the leadoff walk. That brings up Jhonny Peralta with one on and none out. Peralta bunts to get Rayburn over to second, but Alex Avila pops out (Rayburn barely gets back to second to avoid the double-play) and then Andy Dirks grounds out to end the inning.

Eventually I start to think, “Wait a minute, this is much too exciting to be Terra Nova” and I look for a Canadian channel that might be showing it, and I come across City TV, and it looks like Taylor has a knife to Jim’s throat and making threats about how his family better be back at Terra Nova. Then he punches Jim in the face, so it looks like I joined the episode at just the right time.

Was it Human CentiPad? It was very funny, but I was disappointed Steve didn't croak at the end.

I'm guessing that they won't keep on with the 1 person/episode like they have been these first few. At some point once Victoria starts to catch on to what Emanda (I like what you did there) is up to, there will be more to the storyline than just Emanda taking down one person/episode. But I would guess that the second season won't be so much about Emanda getting revenge but more about the aftermath of whatshisname's death.

Did we know that New Girl had been picked up for the full season? Zooey tweeted this morning that they will be off the air because of baseball but will return with new episodes November 1.

Pretty sure they announced that around the same time they made it official that terra nova would only be a half season this year (and left open whether it'd be picked up at all beyond that).

He hadn't yet croaked when the episode was made. Basically the special was taking the viewers through a work week for the South Park team, and they happened to do it focused around the HUMANCENTiPAD episode.

Re: TV Shows VII: Who gets canceled next?

Dunno, maybe it was just a short thing that already played, maybe it's not coming out for a while, I just remember seeing ads for it toward the end of the summer, CIA agent of some sort, teamed up with a more straitlaced partner/handler, lots of chit being blown up and stuff, sort of the same sort of vibe that The Losers had.

Found it. it was called Strike Back, on Cinemax, and August was the beginning of its second season. Almost ended now, and I missed the whole thing.

Re: TV Shows VII: Who gets canceled next?

Took me an extra day to get around to Breaking Bad. No way Mike goes looking for revenge. Dude is a professional, not a fanatic. More likely to seek Walt out to go work for him.

I don't think he'd ask to work for Walt, but he might go to Walt and say, "Walt, you have a huge opportunity here, if we work together we can fill Gus's shoes and make millions." It would be more of an offer to be a partner.

Or they do stick to 1 person per episode and start to run out of good ones. The episode where she goes after the person who makes the coffee at the courthouse is where it jumps the shark.

Agreed. All I know is that there is no way we've seen the last of Mike.
